Quarry vs. Haye.

A win is a win is a win, but I have no doubt Quarry could have continued against Chuvalo. This was more a case of being knocked down and losing track of the count than actually being unable to continue. BUT....it is in the books as a ko.

 

Right, quarry is overrated. Haye is the guy being hyped up to be the savior of the heavyweight division and after all that trash talking you would think he could do more. You mention all of quarry's losses but who has haye beat at quarry's level? No one. Quarry is knocking him out. He's beat the likes of Lyle, foster, shavers, Mathis, etc.

Haye is the guy that is unproven and overrated. Get it right. Quarry wasn't the best but he was better then haye

 

If he had just gotten up and bounced around to clear his head, and not gone back down on his knee for that stupid count, I think Quarry would have regrouped and gone on to win that bout with Chuvalo. I bet that if he could have relived any one fight of his career, he would have chosen that Chuvalo bout...and why they never rematched is beyond me..Quarry would have been a cinch to have avenged that stoppage.

 

Agreed. Haye is a softer punching version Shavers and that is being very generous to him considering Shavers at the least tried to work behind his jab to set things up and go to the body. Quarry was well schooled he just wasn't blessed with the natural gifts of the great fighters of his era.

 

Silly thread. Timid Haye is not in the same league as Jerry Quarry, nor George Chuvalo,
nor Oscar Bonavena, nor Ron Lyle. During Ali's reign,Haye would have been fighting semi-finals.He throws punches with a desperation not to get hit, and with those guys above,HIT, he woud be . He would be like a minor league player entering the major leagues. Over his head,and overmatched with all of Ali's major opponents....

Haye wouldn't even rate as a sparring partner in the company you've just mentioned.

His greatest heavyweight achievement was running like a ***** from a plodding, 300-pound stiff of a Russian giant who could barely walk. And by majority decision at that.

Quarry fought -- as in actually threw punches and tried to win -- against the best. And he didn't flop on the canvas when they got close to him. And he didn't blame his effing toe.

Get real.

 

You mean the great Haye who has defeated such stalwarts as Monte Barrett and the giant sasquatch Valuev at HW?....lol
If Haye wants to blame his toe on the Klitschko debacle then lets give Quarry a pass for the flukey Chuvalo loss. A fight Quarry was winning handily by the way until he got tagged on the top of the head. Anyway, short of being stopped on cuts this is an opponent Quarry should handle rather easily. Quarry TKO 6

 

Haye was afraid of the big Ukrainian and fought to survive, he would make the mistake of not fearing Quarry and Jerry would take him apart ko in 6-7 rds.

 

I doubt that Haye would have lasted as long, not acquitted himself even as well as did Mac Foster.

 

Actually Haye is getting heavily underrated because of 1 loss, where he managed to have more success against Wlad than anyone in the last 6years since Wlad's been prime. Haye isn't the saviour of the division and I don't think anyone believed that, but he's better than Quarry who would also be dominated by Wlad. Quarry struggled against faster opponents, usually losing to them, same thing happens here

 

Yes 1 of the biggest punchers in history couldn't hurt him in Wlad, but he wouldn't manage to see 6-7 rounds against that monster puncher Quarry

 

Lets face it. People were hyping haye and overrating Haye to KO Wlad and Vitali and be the hero of the heavyweights. He was probably more boring and negative then Wlad actually was. Yeah he hurt Wlad maybe 2 or 3 times but he couldn't do anything after he hurt him. He didn't have the balls to do it.

No way Haye is better then Quarry. Based on what? No way Haye has a better resume and no way he has better head to head fighting ability. I've yet to see real proof of that because Haye's resume is too thin. No way Quarry would get dominated like that. At least he would try to knock Wlad out instead of running away and being all negative

Speed wasn't Quarry's problem at all. Quarry was fast himself. If you think Haye just outboxes him and outspeeds him you're wrong. Prime Quarry rips Haye apart for a late TKO

 

Except Wlad never went for the knockout like he said he would in that 12th round. More hype. And Quarry would show him something Wlad never showed Haye

 

Exactly how many flush bombs did Wlad land on Haye? :huh

Wlad has good accuracy, but he barely threw any powerful punches against Haye.
