Since its obvious Kirkland was outgunned in the power department, and his chin left much to be desired. The outcome was anon competitive non sporting event. Would it be terrible if he had better movement, defense, and timing to make up for what he lacked, and he used those skills to stay away from Canelo's power, and turned it into 12 rounds of who could overcome? Or do you have to just let the harder puncher just knock you around, and do possible permanent damage. I guess Floyd really did ruin boxing because I no longer enjoy seeing someone overpowered taking shots til they cant stand, and blood is knocked from their mouth.
I do not think Kirkland has the discipline or boxing brain do those things, in the dressing room before the fight he was moving his upper body side to side, hands up high, slipping and dipping. He gets in the ring, the bell goes and that all goes out the window and he reverts to what he thinks works best and that's just having a shoot out.
The OP hit on it: every fighter should have every skill in abundance. And every pitcher should throw 100 mph, every basketball player should make 75 percent of his 3-point shots, etc. smfh
Well you have to understand, Kirkland was trained by a woman. When you're a female boxer, that kind of style works great when you have attributes like strength, toughness, conditioning, and a chin that isn't damaged by years of unnecessary gym wars and medicine b@ll slams to the back of the head. It seems that against male boxers at the world level of a sport with over 2000 years of development behind it, it just doesn't work quite as well.
