I recently watched Cinderella man and was wondering how much competitive the fight was actually. In the movie it seemed as if Braddock just barely survived but from reading the article it seemed Braddock won handily. Was it really as grueling as portrayed in the movie?
Yeah I watched most of it once years ago and it seemed Braddock won pretty easily over a wide swinging and frankly rubbish Baer. As Jones1 said it was boooring.Braddock was never in any trouble unlike the movie and basically stuck to the fundamentals and racked up points whilst Max goofed around throwing haymakers and looking for the one punch KO. For historical inaccuracy it doesn't compare with the pile of revisionist left-wing tripe that was the film the Hurricane but Cinderalla Man certainly did take some liberties with the truth.
Baer could be a very lazy guy when things weren't going his way, Braddock won very unspectacularly but did win convincingly.....
I remember reading somewhere that he had English parents not Irish as said in the film. Anyone shed any light on this?
It was a pretty straight-forward win for Braddock, and with that iron-chin and the ruleset of the day he probably wasn't in that much danger - but Bear was a murderous puncher, don't forget. Braddock wasn't exactly "safe" in there, and i think the movie just ramps up that sense of danger. There was a bit of delay with the scorecards, that part is true.
