It was the NBA title which went on to become the WBA title the year after...In some ways it was more legit than the numerous titles that dilute what it means to be a world champs these days.

Regardless of the exact title he was most definitely fighting the best middleweight in world for it, one of the greatest middleweights ever.

Not sure if all existing questions have been answered or not? Will throw a new one into the mix anyway. Here’s another ‘underdog’ related question, and probably an easy BoxRec get for someone.

    QUESTION:
Australian who fought mostly as a featherweight through the 1970’s.
Had only a win and a draw from 22 matches, but fought some good pedigree opponents - including a world champ and numerous others with either national titles, challenged for national titles, won state titles etc.

    Who am I??

Yep, that's the name we're looking for.

Gave the Ballantine's chockies away earlier in the week. I'm sure they've been scoffed by now.

Ok... better throw one at you guys....

One well known Aust. Empire champ, had a close family member, who KO'd a former W/W world champion.

    Dig deep guys...

Was thinking Leo Young here. Jnr. won Comm title. Snr fought as a welter, TKO'ed Manny Santos. But Manny was a Comm champ not a world champ....just thinking aloud....

Thinking about it, the Sands brothers would quite possibly have achieved this. Dave of course won Comm title, and would be almost surprised if one of his 5 brothers didn't beat a world champ....on the right path here??
