As I said no actually experience, I've never had an amateur fight or exhibition or anything, and don't go to a gym. Only sort of experience I've had is sparring a couple of times with a friend who's a 13-9 amateur.

I suppose it was the competitiveness of it and the buzz you get. I mean when you see guys standing toe-to-toe fighting for their pride in front of thousands of fans, the adrenaline most be incredible. I suppose the individuality of it is a reason aswell. I mean I play football, I play rugby, and I like working as a team, but occasionally you feel selfish and earn that recognition by yourself. Boxing allows you to go that, once your in the ring it's you and nobody else.

Honestly, I have no idea. I struggle to really pin-point the reason why it attracted me to be honest. It's just a very exciting sport. Occassionally you get boring fights, but compared to other sports where you get very slow periods, boxing in general is fought at a fast, aggressive tempo that excites people.

Probably to non-boxing fans as a dangerous, violent sport.

Well it obviously is violent, it's obviously dangerous being a full contact sport, and where you purposely go out to hurt the other guy. But at the end of the day, I don't think boxers have real grudges against each other. Some day, such as Frazier & Ali's feud that has been well documented, but those are excenuating circumstances. I think most guys get in the ring, beat the hell out of each other, and then become come out of a fight with massive respect for the other guy. As for the dangerous part, ring deaths or serious injuries rarely occur, yes you can get brain damage for example, but most of the guys who have suffered from that tend to sustain their careers for far too long. On the whole, the rules and regulations in place make it as safe as a full on contact sport possibly can be.

I suppose to the general public, most would think that boxers tend to be working class, and probably as quite violent, aggressive people. In terms of personality, unless they follow boxing they probably wouldn't be able to stereotype whether guys are arrogant or more humble.

In terms of social class, yes. I mean it's not that middle class people don't or can't box, but it does tend to be working class. The reason? I think boxing allows people to escape from reality, people who maybe don't have great lives, don't have a lot going for them and not much opportunity. Take Mike Tyson for example, he was working class, grew up in a bad neighbourhood, got involved with the wrong type of people and suffered as a consequence, he didn't have much to look forward to, and found boxing as something he could be successful at.

I live in Charlton. I wouldn't be able to stereotype the people here as a certain class, if any I would say working class because that's how I would divide London as an area. The West is the middle/upper class area, the East less so. The South East, where Charlton is, is probably the most working class part of London, but it's not bad round here. There are far worse places. Every area has their selection, I mean even Peckham has a more nouveau-riche area in it, although it's generally a **** hole.

I don't know generally. I mean if you take London as a whole it's more popular than some places, because there are a lot of gyms, some big name gyms, there's a lot of places where boxing is staged that have great prestige and integrity, for example the O2 Arena in Greenwich & York Hall in Bethnal Green. But as far as why I live specifically, I don't know anybody really that boxes, and none of my mates really follow it much.

I'd describe myself as working class. The reason being that I don't have an awful lot of money at all, I live in a single parent family and the people in my family work in jobs that are classed as probably un-skilled.

I agree with it because at the end of the day, it's a sport, and it's an exciting sport. It's a form of entertainment, and one that offers people chances - chances that perhaps no other sport can provide.
