Rahman vs. Berbick

Yeah, I have it on tape in my box of tricks.... This was back about 10 years ago---Circa 1997 / '98.... Rahman was young and wins a decision over the aged Trevor Berbick.... Christ, Berbick had to be 40 at the time.... It was televised by the USA Tuesday Night fights with Al Albert and Sean O'Grady calling the action.... NOT a great fight at all....:-(

Berbick was a tough *******. Rahman really should have stopped him though.

 

Far as I recall, it was almost all Rahman sticking the jab for 10 rounds and Berbick unable to close the distance.

I also know that Larry Holmes personally congratulated Rahman for the win afterwards...still a bit of bad blood there obviously.

 

Good old Larry. He and Berbick never got along.

if i remember rahman actually dropped berbick in the opening round i think...i know berbick did go down in the fight though

 

Well...I thought I had something written down on my computer about it. Lemma go look.

 

You're absolutely right...Berbick was down in the 1st, and against the ropes for the rest of the round. Rahman always had him wobbling in the 4th.
