The punch that shattered Lennox Lewis...what other ATGs or contenders would be knocked senseless by that punch? My guesses are..

    Floyd Patterson

Jack Johnson (maybe. He might beat the count. It would resemble the Stanley Ketchel knockdown)

Joe Louis (I think he'd beat the count, but he'd be hurt)

    Earnie Shavers

    Butterbean :D

Sonny Liston (1969) (I think the Rahman punch was harder than the one delivered by Leotis Martin)

    Any other guesses?

Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, and Sonny Liston were the only atgs you listed there and it would't knockout any of those (it might drop Louis but he would get up as always.)

A lot of heavies woulda stayed down from that shot. It truly was a great knockout. Everyone says lucky punch, but he obviously was fighting a decent fight that night using the long jab. That big punch was cleverly detonated.

That's a sexi picture of The Rock. But I digress. It would be interesting to see how Jack Johnson would take that punch. But one of the magical elements of the blow was that Lennox bounced into the punch. He was off balance, and the punch broke right through his guard and shattered him. It's one of the best punches I've seen. Rahman resembled the Hard Rock from Brockton on this night. He was losing the fight, and landed one blockbuster shot to end it all. The ghetto celebration in the ring was the icing on the cake. He made sure to thank all 16 of his baby's mamas.

The real question is what other heavyweight great would be hit by a shot like that. Rahman threw it from the other side of the ring and Lewis still couldnt get out of the way. He fought like he just woke up from a coma.

Louis and Ali and most of them have been hit by some stupid stuff. Kind of unfair, no?

It was Lewis fault. He didnt take Rahman seriously and paid the price. It had nothing to do with Rahmans great skills. Rahman was a good solid fighter and he prepared himself well for his shot so he deserves to win. Lewis fought a very lazy fight and the rematch was proof of what the reality of the two fighters was.

Oh, yes. That stupid. From also far inferior fighters to themselves. It usually didn't have the same effect though, from a difference in beards. God, I just watched Ali/Ellis the other day, and while Ali was diddledicking around with his hands at his waist, bouncing and mostly avoiding punches he was getting caught, here and there, with very dumb stuff that there was simply no reason to get caught with other than arrogance. Much of it was simply ignored by the commentators, that I heard. Lewis was very arrogant in the Rahman fight too, but Rahman had a damn powerful right and Lewis is obviously not as resilient as Ali. The point still stands. Most of these guys have moments of arrogance and carelessness. Holyfield could get quite reckless too, except he had an iron chin and superior recuperative powers compared to Lennox.

If Rahman lands that punch on almost any fighter in history its lights out. The scrutiny comes from it being landed to begin with. Bottom line is Lewis was caught sleeping and untrained. Its no one else's fault, but we saw what happewns with a trained and focussed figher.
