    1. Henry Armstrong
    2. Harry Greb
    3. Ray Robinson
    4. Benny Leonard
    5. Ezzard Charles
    6. Willie Pep
    7. Roberto Duran
    8. Archie Moore
    9. Joe Gans
    10. Barney Ross

Although for a while now I've been thinking about swapping Duran with Pep for a #6 placing.

I do, however, think he was the best fighter of all time for his ability. I'd love to see him in the '40s - might lose a couple more because of a hectic schedule (to Williams, Montgomery, Gavilan and Joyce?) but he'd come out on top in the end and cement a top three all-time rating.

Imagine that on Duran's record; 1-1 with Williams, 2-1 with Montgomery, 2-0 against Jack, 2-1 with Joyce, 2-1 against Gavilan, 1-0 with Angott and wins against Bratton, Bolanos and Bell, among a few lessers, just at lightweight and welterweight. Would look quite good.

He was the fighting virtuoso of his time, a time which happened to be jam-packed with all-time greats. I once did a list of all the Hall of Famers he beat, as well as contenders, and the amount of times he beat them. It's a record that holds up to absolutely anyone's, having beaten several great lightweights, a couple of great welterweights and a long string of challengers. The Ray Robinson of the '10s - '20s.

ok thanks, i rate Benny Leonard probably around top 20, for the same reasons as you just not as high but fair enough. In all honesty a top 20 list say all the fighters are in close proximity of each other.

My top 10 isn't completely locked-down but I have him between #6 and #8 with Pep and Ali. I'm never completely happy with what order to rank those three.

Read a bit of Woddy's posting history before allowing yourself to get too worked up. The guy is the ultimate troll.
