The different sentences indicate I was making separate points between the ground game and the standup.

Mate your becoming border line stupid here ............

Penn drew with Uno when he was no more than a 150 lb JJ black belt who was smoking weed and eating cheeseburgers every night while training for a fight , Uno is still that same that fighter now , and incase you missed it Penn finished Stevenson , Sherk , Florian and Sanchez in a row @55 while at his best .

The style of fighting in the USA / rest of the world is different to that of Japan , the ring and cage have there differences and present different scenario's for fighters , example , the scoring system in Japan is different to that in the States / rest of the world , that creates somewhat of a different style of fight , UFC style of fight is a more fluent fight with no breaks , its a more true representation of a real fight than the ring based fights provide .

More to that in Japan a lot is based on technique and damage , in the UFC its control and aggression , making a dent in the mid level fighters in the UFC is not really that great of an acheivement when your looking to compare the levels in the different country's , because basically they dont compare .

Eddie Alvarez is a well rounded fighter and id expect him to beat Aoki these days , he IMO along with Kawajiri , Aoki & Huerta would be somewhat usefull in the UFC , Alvarez being the most complete of those 4 , but i wouldnt be jumping around with excitement about them . And part of me would actually be looking forward to seeing Aoki get a good beating :deal

Ya, I don't know where you get that drinking beer and smoking weed were part of BJs regiment, maybe you are thinking about the Pulver fight, Penn was already highly regarded at the time of the Uno fight, that is why they called him the Prodigy.

You are talking like there are two different sports in Japan and NA. There are differences of course, but a good fighter is a good fighter in any MMA setting. It just takes time to adapt to the surroundings, look at Shogun Rua's first fight compared to what he was able to do after.

Saying that Alvarez would beat Aoki now is over the line stupid. He got submitted in less than 2 minutes when they fought, and highlights include him running away as Aoki was moving towards him with his guard. Alvarez is a good fighter, I do not mean to put him down, but this fight was not that long ago and showed how Aoki's grappling can neutralize the other strengths of an opponent.

There's no way Aoki should be considered along with Edgar, Maynard and Melendez at the top of the 155lbs. Gilbert humiliated him and Frankie and Gray would do the same. I'd also put Jim Miller, Anthony Pettis and Ben Henderson above him.

So let me get this straight - Penn's draw to Uno in 2003 proves him inferior to fighters that went on to beat Uno later on BUT Aoki being embarassed by Gilbert Melendez last year does not prove Aoki is inferior to Melendez. That makes complete sense :patsch

WTF??? I never said anything about BJ being inferior, I was only making a point about the Dream LW being not far behind.

Do you see any of Aoki's unorthodox tactics as strengths?
