Rate Hasim Rahman.

1-10, at his best I give him a 6.5, which is good but he's obviously not consistent. He can be a very good heavyweight though. Not great.

 

A bit of an enigma in a way reasonable boxing skill and a good chin Tua got him after the bell and Lewis iced him like no one else was able to. I think a fighter with his power often has the sort of results he has, Tua is another example, the power to decide a fight but when they come up against a top skilled opponent they look ordinary.

He was a top contender who got lucky with Lewis because of his power.

I think your description of him is pretty accurate. I remember when Tommy Brooks had him and he was overachieving at the time, because he was in top shape. The fight with Tua was rememnants of what Brooks created with Rahman but it was pretty much downhill and inconsistent after that with exception of the Lewis win. I believe if he would have stayed with Brooks he would have beaten Tua.
Rahman in my mind was as good as all the contenders of the mid to late 90's, which wasnt great, but decent. I dont rate him in the class of the Bowes, Holyfields, Lewis and Tyson's because he wasnt there. He was closer to the Ray Mercer level fighter with a worse chin.

 

His chin was adequate, but it wasnt Ray Mercer Oliver Mcall like. Realistically Mercer was more competitive with Lewis over the course of his fight, because of his chin in my opinion. It allowed him to walk through a lot of Lewis bombs and get close. Rahman was knocked out pretty quickly against a dialed in Lewis.
Tua couldnt hurt Rahman because he didnt land cleanly. If he would have Rahman would have been laid out.
