If he is a Quitter then Tyson is a quitter.

Lots of fighters quit when they are out there for the pay day.

 

He is at best a solid grade B with a good argument for demoting him to grade C

 

Remember though, just like with ATG's, we can't down grade him for performances past his Prime.

I've noticed that lowy fighters do not get treated like Great fighters.

Based on him beating Lewis and becoming undisputed king, his fights with Tua and getting hsi hands on the WBC a second time, he is B in my book.

 

Probably 'B' is right.

I do think the lack of an amateur career really hurt his entire career though. And I do think someone like Steward would've done very good things with Rahman.

Think if Wlad step on the gas a bit early, he may have ice him like Lewis? Or would Rahman have found the opening needed to end the fight?

 

No. That is not why he is a B fighter.

 

Despite winning the Ring Belt and beating Lewis, I would have Rahman as a solid third tier guy for his era. Way below Wlad and Lewis....a little below Byrd, Vitali, and Ruiz....and on par or just a little better than guys like Tua, Oleg, Sanders, Toney, and Peter. A "B" rating is very fair.

 

Well, the ratings are arbitrary anyway.

I put a lot of emphasis on being champ, no matter how it is achieved, and he beat Lewis fair and square.

 

I agree. The Lewis win is a big deal but sadly, the only other ranked fighter he managed to beat was Barrett in unimpressive fashion. Still probably more than Tua ever did for example, I don't know I think at least one win over Oleg would have pushed him to the next level in my book, he has a couple bad draws too, deserving the nod or not they were bad performances. With the exception of one night, the guy just couldn't seem to break away from the pack.

 

my favorite fight of his is the kali meehan fight, he was fired up and attacked and dominated a guy who had been in a close fight with lamon brewster who had beaten wladimir recently.

 

The Sanders win was pretty good too....

 

Mediocre as a contender, poor as a champion.

Great punch that he put on Lennox Lewis though, a great win.

Wasn't Sanders ranked? That was an excellent win, a far better Sanders than Vitali faced, who in turn was maybe Vitali's best win. The 'draw' with Tua was a win, as was the first Toney 'draw'. Sullivan was a decent prospect when Rahman beat him. Meehan supposedly deserved a win over Brewster in his fight before Rahman got to him

I wouldn't rank Rahman below Byrd/Ruiz at all as I don't think either would ever be able to beat Lewis/Sanders
