Calzaghe fought most of his career with a broken left and a right

 

dumbass choice of career if that were true.

 

What the heck has that to do with the threads subject of rating Mikkel Kessler?

 

In my opinion, Mikkel Kessler ranks as the 3rd best fighter Joe Calzaghe beat (behind obviously Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.).

In addition, I rate Kessler higher than any fighter Floyd Mayweather beat.

 

Uh, he's the best Calzaghe beat. By a lot.

He isn't as good as prime Hopkins and Jones, but the versions Calzaghe fought?

 

Good point. I think Kessler beats the version Roy Jones Jr. that Calzaghe beat. However, I still have a hard time believing that Kessler would beat any version of Hopkins. I think the version of Hopkins that fought Calzaghe would still find a way to outbox Kessler for a UD.

Keep in mind, after fighting Calzaghe, Hopkins went on to outbox Kelly Pavlik (who was undefeated at the time, and the reigning Fighter of the Year.)

 

I think that Kessler may struggle against the Hopkins that Calzaghe fought.
But keep in mind that Pascal floored him twice and that he lost to Taylor, both fighters that i believe that Kessler would have handled in his prime.

 

Kessler is a full level above Pavlik, at any point.

I'd definitely tip him over the current Hopkins who lost to Dawson, at LHW.

Back then, between their respective matches with Calzaghe? Not out of the question that Kessler takes it then, either.

 

If it is any indication of chances it is worth noting that Hopkins turned down a whopping 4 million dollar offer to fight Kessler in Denmark.

 

Hopkins wasn't even that much past it like people make out, they way people write you would believe BHop was shot to **** and JC was a prime beast (although he was clearly slowing down aswell). That hopkins went on to school Pavlik, that hopkins few years later became the Light Heavyweight champion, that version was far removed from the version that fought Calzaghe.
Kessler was better than KP, but Hopkins was better than Kessler, look at ward did to a slightly past it kessler, Hopkins was better than ward.


Jones was way past his prime.

Look at his early fights and few amateur fights, he didn't slap - not to say his punching technique was text booak - but still didn't slap, only when he started to break his hands he went in to that slapping technique - He adjusted to his hands because he good enough to do so

 

He's just behind Ward and Froch.
