Can anybody put their finger on why it is that over the past few years we have developed from an average boxing country to probably the most prolific in the world on most levels ? Is it to do with investment in the 2012 Olympics or our coaching techniques ? Whatever it is I expect our football sides could learn a thing or two, maybe boxing coaches should run the fitness side of football teams !!
Eddie Hearn. He has made a lot of risks, but they have paid off. As a result other promoters like ****** and Hennessey have stepped up to compete in the marked, and as a result a lot British fighters have been given world title shots.
so you think it'd about them just getting the shots as opposed to be simply superior to the yesteryear boxers ?
It's a combination of factors. The shift from the Americas to Europe and Asia, with the older US/Mexican generation disappearing. Better drugtesting in the US. Actually getting the chances. Even more "world titles" to win nowadays, like the many WBA variations with up to 5 champs a division.
In the build up to the last two Olympics some sports got increased financing, but many have had cuts since the London Olympics. This could explain the recent increase in results as we are seeing the fruits of the increased funding, but it could lead to a drop off in the coming years as the money is drying up. There is also the old adage of success breads success. As certain people improve it can improve the quality of those around them. It can also lead to more non-government funding coming in and this can lead to more top coaches from outside Britain coming over here. It also helps the next generation as participation in these sports at the grass roots level increases as that particular sport gains more domestic success. It is impressive how well Britain is doing in various sports considering we have not had a government in decades who gives a damn about sports. You look at countries like America, Australia, Russia, etc, and see how much money and support they put into their sports at all levels and then you look at Britain with its one hour of PE a week and a glass of tap water and an orange to share around the Olympic team every four years.

It seems that many of the countries that used to dominate boxing had fallen dramatically in quantity or quality, and Britain had risen by default. I don't think the boxers we have know are better that the crop we had 20, 30, 40 years ago.
