Surely they should be trying to get a fight with Hatton as soon as possible. He is in a prime position to make a pile of money.
Very odd statement for Calzaghe Snr to come out with considering many (rightly or wrongly) consider Rees to be a paper champion. Hatton v Rees holds no appeal for me whatsoever.
rees is still new to the game - hatton has bigger fights to rees & not being funny but rees is no where near the class of a hatton!!
I agree with Enzo. I dont see how Hatton deserves a fight against Rees, after all Hatton got beaten by Mayweather, & Rees is still unbeaten & a champion. So Hatton should have to earn a shot at Rees. aah just kidding! I bet I had some of you going there Realistically Hatton would punch Rees head off & Enzo knows it. Thats why they are shitting it. Or maybe they know Rees willbe rickys comeback fight & they are playing hardball to get a better deal for their man as they know Hatton will destroy him.
Ideally Hatton would fight Malinaggi in New York and Witter fight Rees anywhere in Britain. Then the winners (probably Hatton and almost certainly Witter) could fight in a unification superfight in Britain. I think Hatton-Malinaggi would be easy enough to make. Paulie wants it and HBO would love to have Hatton back looking at the numbers and the noise he made during the Mayweather fight.
I haven't seen the Hatton-Mayweather fight, but is it possible that the beating Hatton took may have diminshed him to some extent? Sometimes fighters are never the same after suffering a knockout defeat. Is Hatton likely to be more "beatable" if he's rushed back too quickly, then if he has a nice rest and then has an easy warm-up fight?
...but then, you'd think Rees & Enzo would leap at the chance to try and capitalize on a potentially vunerable Hatton. I dunno, this just seems a very odd statement to make. I think it seems like Enzo trying to be the 'big man' about Rees and talking him up, without much basis in actual fact. And despite what Enzo thinks, it's not up to him...I reckon the WBA would be more than happy to have Hatton fight for their belt.
