Martinez was able to get away with the showboating and whatnot because of his opponent, not because he was infinitely skilled. At one point I believe Lampley even tried to compare him to a prime Roy Jones... he's not even close. He took several straight rights flush, but there was nothing to follow it up which let him off the hook. When he can pull that sort of thing off against the top tier, then he'll be for real. Angulo did a lot of nice body work in his fight. I enjoyed how he was mixing up his punches. Showed a lot of nice variety. I'll be looking to see him again. Gamboa is too much in love with his handspeed and power that comes with it. He needs to tighten up or at least learn how to slip punches and defend while he's flurrying. Otherwise expect him to get knocked out when he faces the best in the boxing world. If he learned to defend he could be formidable, but just trying to outgun everyone is simply not going to work. A crafty veteran with a chin and cagey defense would be the antidote for that flash.
That's a possibility. Would be an interesting fight. If Forrest was able to stick the jab all night long it would tag Martinez solidly and keep him off balance, I believe.
Martinez VS Forrest will be a sleeper. I could just picture it "Battle of the jabs" lol Martinez UD12 this guy will beat him to the punch.
Good assessment, I do believe believe Gamboa will get ko'd as soon as he faces a guy with a chin like a Soto. Angulo looked great and I hope they continue to step up the competition. Martinez looked good but I have a feeling he won't have that belt for long.
That would actually be the more fun fight to watch. Both guys trying to outslick one another and look flashier while they're doing it. Potential to be exciting.
I think Martinez would want to explode, though. I can't see him sticking to a jab. Forrest would trying to frustrate him with a slower pace. You could be right though about Martinez just beating him to the punch.
Soto Vs Gamboa would be ****in bad ass. I think Soto would tag Gamboa and get him pissed off, then we would see a ****in war. Solid matchup.
LMAO mi amigo felitin, envious is a poor choice of words, but i think what the majority of the people r trying to point out of gamboa is his defense. that's all. no one is saying he is not going to be a champion or an elite fighter, because many fighters have become successful with poor defense, such as tito trinidad, jorge arce, arturo gatti, and the list goes on. if he did work more on his defense, like a prime tyson did, he can save himself from alot of trouble and defeat in the future when he does fight someone that can handle his speed and power which eventually will.
Is this for real? I'm not concerned with his nationality. The fact is he has a leaky defense that needs to be cleared up. Can he win a title with his defense as it is now? Yes. Can he stay on top and go undefeated at the very top level for any significant period of time as he is? No.
Gamboa is a breath of fresh air. Roy's style was criticized but now it is praised and copied. Gamboa is new and learning. Look at any of the past greats in comparison to their prime phases. Not even close.
That's all I'm saying. He DOES have improvements to make. I am not questioning his talent and do enjoy watching him fight. He has a lot of upside.
If he has already been knocked down twice(the last one doesn't count because it was an elbow), just imagine what a top fighter would do. Hmmm::think
