Not sure about the boxing, but he either was shot at or hit somewhere in DC here recently. Apparently, it was some batty old guy who did it.

    Strange, but true.

Derrell Coley was one of the best talented DC area fighters only a few years ago.. Very under rated, Dc had a few greats going back some years,, Simon Brown, Maurice Blocker, Vincent Pettway, Jerry Ballard, William Joppy, Keith Holmes, Reggie Gross, and even Ray Leonard was from close by Maryland.. Riddick too... Tough neighbour hoods..

Thanks. That's encouraging, at least. There's no question that American talent has taken a hit, but if the gyms stick around, you give yourself a chance to regain strength over time.

A few years ago i helped Luis Tapia empty Johnny Toccos gym out in Las Vegas a day before Christmas 2006.. Luis had sold it to a new guy whom we thought was going to rip it out and make it into offices.. But my sadness after years of being a boxing historian and frequent visiter was changed to joy , when i last visited the gym was clean and back in use to the same old clientele , and even Jermaine for the Pavlick rematch.. I love the old gyms, they are the soul of boxing from a bygone era...

I remember when he said he was tired of Oscar ducking him. Oscar said "how can I duck someone I've never heard of"
