Tough for boxing to lose a warrior so young. Immortal.

Sanchez held the keys to the castle. He was on his way to being perhaps the most popular lower weight fighter of his era. Sadly Sanchez lost his life in an auto accident. The damage was severe enough to make physical identification impossibility. Sanchez was identified by Jewelry, not facial features. Over 20,000 attended his funeral.

Well, it was the 1980's in Mexico; it's possible Dental records weren't available. It's not unheard of for police to use other means to identify an unrecognizable body (the military does it a lot in aircraft crashes).

Sanchez lost control of his sports car ( Porsche ) and crashed. The car was flattened like a pancake.

I think he'd beat Chavez at 130. Chavez barely beat LaPorte and Sanchez had a good enough speed to trouble Chavez.

Head to head, I think Sanchez beats Chavez and even the bad ass Nicaraguan Arguello.

As far as accomplishments, Chavez and Arguello reign a bit more supreme.

The ministery of sports along with the WBC will pay homeage to the great Salvador Sanchez.
There will be many former champions in attendance including Salvador Sanchez victims Wilfredo Gomez, Azumah Nelsona and Juan Laporte.

I'm happy to hear that they're honoring the memory of one of Mexico's finest in Salvador Sanchez.

I'm hoping that one of the spanish speaking TV networks broadcast the happenings, even if its for a later date.....man the stories former Sanchez victims Gomez, Nelson, and Laporte will tell!:thumbsup

Just nice to hear that Mexico and Boxing have not forgotten one of their best ever!:thumbsup

I would consider Sanchez a better all around fighter than Chavez IMHO.
