So we all know that Rigondeaux is mostly a pure defensive fighter with speed and power to boot and his defense is obviously second to none, the best out there today. What are your thoughts on his offensive abilities? To me I think his offense, whenever he does use it, is insane. Besides his 'power' counterpunches he's also a great punch picker. He rarely punches in combos but during those occasions when he does let his hands go he looks sensational. He showed he can seriously hurt and knock guys out with his power.
Honestly, he has that ability to be a more exciting fighter, but he chooses not to because it's not in his nature. I feel that if he had a more aggressive style and learn how to blend his amazing defense with his offense like Duran or Tyson he'd probably be even greater. It's just ashame that he's already in his 30s and he will probably never change his style to please casual fans. But I guess it's for the better. What do you guys think?

He's probably the only fighter who regularly injures his opponent in the face...

He drops guys to the head and body. He seems to have decent power in his right hand as well when he chooses to use it. He has fractured and broken opponents bones. He is always the smaller man in height and weight in the ring though. I think that is why he fights more defensive minded, and it really depends on the opponent, he was in front of Donaire Agbeko, and Amagasa plenty. They usually couldn't hit him. He probably should be fighting at 118, being that he doesn't gain much weight in the ring. He is comfortable at 122 though.

Also, if Arum had of matched him better, nobody would be complaining. Put him in with limited Mexican guys like Arce, Montiel, Terrazas etc, and he would be must see TV. He would destroy guys like that.

Those are showcase type opponents that Arums more favored guys are matched with to look good and build up. Donaire was matched with such. Pac was also matched with similar type Mexican guys. Rigs wasn't, and Walters won't be either.

Ah, I thought maybe you meant to quote someone else.

"They're grrrrrrrreat" referred to Rigondeaux's offensive skills.

Frustrating. When he lets his punches go he is beautiful to watch but all too often his offense is limited to single shots when you know he can deliver so much more. His offensive "skills" are sensation just a shame that his "application" of those skills tend to be frustrating.

Right, I didnt know if you were poking humor at me mentioning Montiel and Arce type fights to build a boxers brand up. I see now.

Rigondeaux was pretty damn offensive against Amagasa and it was a fan friendly fight. Shame very few other than hardcore fans will have seen it.

He almost got knocked out by a complete nobody for all intents and purposes. It was very telling.
