I think the company line was that their additional content was going online which probably meant that it was axed to cut costs.
I heard Pudding Whyte and Pudding Chisora types demanded PPV appearance fees and Sly Sports had enough.
I am guessing as every half decent fight is now PPV, such content is now all also part of PPV build up. For example, the face offs between fighters on the week of the fight. That is now part of the PPV build up.
I used to really enjoy that. Cost cutting in the wrong areas again. Don’t they have a channel just for NFL now? It’s **** and American! Formula 1 had its own channel.l too do these really pull in more fans than the boxing? Or do they just value them more because boxing fans are stupid and will pay the PPVs no matter what so they don’t need to keep their programmes on. It’s the same as the BBC rats taking BBC 3 away. That’s was brilliant, good comedy and loads that educated young people through things like political debates to documentaries. They got rid of that and left an even more niche old person version of BBC 2 in BBC 4. I was flicking the other day and some fella was on there teaching people how to paint with an easel. It looked like it was filmed in the early 80s!! Wtf!?
Loved this show. Favourite episodes were the Groves-DeGale and the Khan-Brook ones. They did well to help promote fights/rivalries.
Used to really enjoy it. I would love if they brought it back. They could stick clips of it on the sky sports boxing YouTube page after too.
Yes. F1 gets about 1.2 million a race on sky. **** knows why it's dull. No idea about American football it's totally off my radar it's that shite. Sky got rid of lots of "shoulder" programming like ringside, soccer am all sports show, cricket am, Sunday supplement, goals on Sunday etc. Guess it's just not driving subs so why bother.
It needs to make a comeback. It doesn’t need to be big stars all the time. The only concern I’d have about it is, is it behind the times now? With YouTube etc? There’s plenty of matchroom fighters who could do with a profile boost. Here’s how I’d bring it back: - Once a month, reviewing all the previous months fights/shows and the next months upcoming fights/shows - a 90 minute or 2 hour show of a Friday night. - Show consists of interviews, highlights and then lastly a prospect fighting on it to finish up. Lads are fighting in empty tv studios anyway. Put a fighter on there who’s 5/6/7 and 0 on there to boost his profile. Maybe even put 2 fights on. A fight to start the show, a fight to end the show. - This gives you an opportunity to get youngsters/prospects/debutants out and great exposure without the cost of a full card.
