LOL, actually I heard the story went Reg was interviewing Liston, and Sonny was doing his intimidation act, so Reg got out a pen knife and started stabbing his leg whilst keeping eye contact with Sonny..... Sonny called Reg, Mr Gutteridge for the rest of the interview and gave nice full answers to any questions..... I suspect yours is the true one, mine the urban legend.
i preferred the other classic line from that fight. he's out and it's over..........is that the bell gone jim????? RIP.
Reg was a commentary legend.... That line at the conclusion of the Tyson fight was a classic and I can here him saying itin my head now. I hope boxing news and co give him the send off he deserves... Without the likes of Reg, people who live and breath the fight game through and through, we wouldn't have very much to talk about at all. RIP Reg.... thanks for making my memories of the fights you called that much more dramatic.
Reg was without doubt the best commentator ive heard call a fight .. His partnership with Jim Watt was always insightful and to the point .. A sad loss of a true broadcasting legend
Sad news. Reg and Harry Carpenter were THE voices of Boxing for British fans and it's a sad loss to Boxing. RIP
