Wtf you are talking about ? Go listen exactly what Robert McCracken told Joshua in the corner. He told him plenty of time even before the KD in the third round. Just jab and fight from distance, DON`T GO IN EXCHANGES. Just jab 1-2 and move. He told him to be careful on Ruiz counters. And he TOLD HIM to not let his guard down and to keep it HIGH. I`m sorry but Robert McCracken told Joshua the right thing to do, but Joshua simply didn`t listen. Absolutely zero problem with Joshua coach. Some people have to understand that 1 bad result, don`t wash 30 good results in the past.
Yeah that's precisely proved my point. Jab 1-2 was never going to win him that fight. He needed to mix the shots up and soften Ruiz up, jabs to the body and lots of feints to avoid that counter flurry that was inevitably coming. Walking around with his weight on his front foot trying to jab 1-2 his way round the ring wasn't working and was never going to work. When your man has been downed twice and doesn't look like getting his way into the fight and looks lost in there, sometimes he needs a plan B or something different which Rob didn't provide. It is down to opinion but IMO gloves up, jab 1-2 is horrible advice given the way the fight was panning out and how lost AJ looked in there.
I don't rate rob that highly as a trainer but he can't be blamed for Aj's performance. When the pressure is on AJ he turns into a novice and needs his hand held and basic instructions. I do wonder that they are working on in training though. Every time I see footage its just AJ on the mits doing the same combos, jab right and big left hook/duck under. Very basic ****.
gloves up jab 1-2 is pretty much the chinny robot's entire repertoire works well against second/third tier scrubs who stand infront of him or shot old grey haired retired old men, but you get a tubby little Mexican who puts you on the backfoot and you're done for which is why they don't take the rematch, and fast car will have to spin it for the sky brains trust as they won't be able to understand it
Essentially mcraken was telling a.j to box on the back foot, use straight arm shots and keep the reach advantage.. For how the fight was going and where a.js mind was at that time, imo it was the correct advice but a.j wasn't carrying it out. At best he was throwing a lazy jab and going for a walk.
He has a fantastic upper cut. Should’ve been using that against the shorter man. One time he did he put him down.
I rate McCracken highly and think he's done a great job with AJ. The advice was basically box on the outside and keep Ruiz on the end of the jab, throw the right hand when there's an opening. Basic stuff yes, but that's all AJ had to do to win the fight. He got involved in a gun fight and burst his gas tank. A bit convenient blaming McCracken. Lets not forget the job Rob has done up to now. AJ wasn't a natural boxer. He was a rough diamond and may not have got to the top without Rob. Rob has also been brilliant for keeping his feet on the ground while the rest of the world talked nonsense. Rob clearly knows the limitations which is why he tries to keep it simple with AJ. The last thing AJ neeeded on Saturday night was complicated instructions.
The jab 1-2 was ineffective. He never once told him to work Ruiz’s body at least I never heard him say that. I stand to be corrected if someone heard him say that.
Honestly Joshua doesn't have the stamina to move his head n feet. He gasses out every fight without doing it, can you imagnie if he was bouncing round the ring lol
20cm is a huge reach advantage! No wonder McCracken was telling AJ to 1-2 and keep it long. Did the occasion get to AJ and everything else went out the window? He clearly wasn’t right after Ruiz rattled and dropped him
