Greenock's John Simpson was last night robbed of his Commonwealth featherweight title by a piece of bizarre judging that calls into question the whole way that such contests are decided.
In an extremely close fight, which admittedly could have gone either way, a Scottish judge awarded the fight to Simpson, but two English judges called it for compatriot Stephen Smith.

I wouldn't call it a robbery, but he was "robbed" more because his opponent was the promoters unbeaten prospect and any close decision was always going to go his way, not because of his nationality

Links to the fight? I rather see it for myself than take a less than reliable source for proof.

i was far from a robbery. the were 8-9 rounds that could of gone either way and its always going to be difficult to win a fight on the inside.

this article and posts just sums up scottish people. bitter and twisted about things the english couldn't give a **** about.

I think it's a good article man .So far I say 70 80 percent of posters on here had it for Simpson .So the 116 - 112 is a bit biased .Maybe not a robbery man but try and put it politer .

Think I had it to Simpson by 115-113 but was such a close fight it could've gone either way. 116-112 seems like too wide a margin but if you're scoring a fight soley on your own then sometimes you can give a couple of close rounds a certain way and it'll look a little odd.

IIRC, nearly everyone on the RBR had it by one round either way or level going into the last, not even close to a robbery.

    smart....good looking.....kind????

look why would the english judges give it to Smith because he is English....it would only work the other way. Scots have the vendetta against english people, english couldn't care less.

Or Smith was denied a unanimous decision by a Scottish judge?

Some truth to this. It would never even have occured to me to consider the nationalities of the judges which ever way they scored it. Ian John-Lewis is from Kent. Do you really think he's biased as to who wins between a scouser and a glaswegian? :?

"Robbed" in an "extremely close fight" that "could have gone either way"?
