well the way i see it duran simply couldnt like or even respect someone in the ring. i remember hearing a story about how a fighter who was a fan of his asked for his autograph, since there was a chance duran might fight him, duran stormed off. He simply couldn't like anyone he would face in the ringl, obviously this isnt a good thing but at the same time he got along with everyone he wouldn't be figthing. This is clear as even leonard very highly about how kind, and gracious, duran was to him and his son during their 7up commercial. It is seen even more through pazienza's description of how kind duran was years after fighting him when staying at duran's house in panama. And i slightly disagree with sweat pea saying that leonard's tactic was more effective than duran's because althought leonard's games playing around with duran in the ring were clever. The main factor was that leonard basically paid duran into the ring as he was out of shape, and using raw amounts of cash just doesnt seem as clever to me as psychological warfare.

To me you sound like a Heavyweight boxing fan, perhaps you should stick to discussin the heavies. As a boxing fan you can only love Duran for the way he fights, perhaps you should watch a few more of him in his prime then form an opinion. As for disrespecting opponents - didn't Ali spit on a fallen foe, according to Colin Hart ( his biggest fan).....
As a person, there is no doubt in my mind Roberto Duran is the biggest scumsucking **** to ever set foot in a boxing ring - Put him next to Mike Tyson and Tyson will look like Mamma Theresa. I do believe he's devoid of any humanistic goodness - I don't care if he sees himself as a Panamanian Robin Hood, the man was never taught RESPECT. But as a fighter, geez, he was something special.
your opinion is on point regarding the in the ring duran. but outside of the ring, he is the opposite. once the fight was signed and he started training, he hated the man that was going to face him. but after it was over, it was over. one of the reasons for durans financial troubles was the fact that he never forgot where he came from, and always helped those around him. but to compare him to tyson, is more than a stretch. when have heard of duran involved in any outside the ring problems. inside the ring, he despised dejesus. but when dejesus was on his deathbed dying of aids, duran was there with him. could you imagine tyson in that situation.
rich kid have a tendency to be bad is well. You cannot say that any class of people is better behaved than the other but people from poor backgrounds like duran are more likely to be full of , HUNGER, anger and hatred. Duran was a very good person if you were never a threat to him in the ring. he has helped a lot of people. HIM AND RAY made up before the second fight. ray said he was great to get on with. totally opposite to the first fight

Rich kids are the most obnoxious and disrepectful people I know. They expect everything handed to them on a silver platter. They're undisciplined, as they don't have to work for anything. They look down on everybody. They know Daddy can get them out of trouble. I can definitely say from my personal experience that the tendency to act bad is concentrated more among the children of rich folks. They just don't suffer the consequences of their bad acts like poor people do.
Yes, he did. He openly voiced his disdain for black Muslims and anybody involved with them, including Ali. He said many disrespectful things about Ali leading up to the fight.
