I don't really play video games anymore (honest) but I do own a Playstation 3 on which I watch the odd film, and the other day I was out n' about and came across Fight Night Champion for a very reasonable price - I can't say I'm totally enamoured with it but I suppose it's about as good as a boxing game can currently be.

Anyway, each boxer featured in the game carries a rating and there are a few classics featured as well - refreshingly, Carlos Monzon (murdering scum, but still...) seems to finally be receiving some recognition. Sort of. The ratings are extremely frustrating for a historical fan such as myself. Some glaring problems!:

    - Ray Robinson doesn't feature at welterweight (Ray Leonard is in both divisions) and is rated 96 at middleweight
    - Carlos Monzon is 89 overall with an 18 for 'chin' whilst Robinson's is rated the same as Hagler and LaMotta's at 20 (out of 20)
    - They used Roberto Duran's mid-'80s fat cafe owner face instead of what he actually looked like at 135lbs, which is the division in which he features
    - Sonny Liston is 82 - less than Tommy Morrison (84)

    Etc...

... There was a point to all this. If you were making a video game and were to add classic boxers, who would you most like to put in? And what kind of rating would you give them?

Me? I'd have to put Henry Armstrong in there... If Robinson was a 96 (but at welterweight instead) then Hank would have to be a 95 at featherweight, albeit with much different strengths, like... Strength.

Agree, i think they just have to do it for popularity

It's a pity they don't have more of the older boxers in these games. That would be a boxing historians (who are gamers) dream. I wonder if why they aren't included. Do they feel that its not neccessary or is it an issue with naming rights?

Mosley's chin rating, Chavez' chin rating and Liston's jab rating were WAY off and need to be changed before the next one comes out this year. All the other ratings were fair for the most part.

A lot has to do with ROI. It takes a lot of work(and money) to include these guys in the game so if they don't think people are going to play with someone , they won't use them. Certain guys aren't included because they(or their estates) are probably asking for too much money( Holmes, Floyd). Camacho should have been in every single one of these games but for one reason or another he wasn't.

You'll have to edit Monzon anyway as his style and attributes are way off, but with a bit of tweaking he hit 91 and resembled him exactly (IMO)

If you properly simulated Armstrong he'd ruin the game.

Considering you can spark Hagler with Winky Wright it's already ruined.
