You cannot compare Buchanan to Chavez. And Bramble had a decent chin and was strong on the inside and Rosario easily landed punches on him and stopped him in 2 rounds once he started to land and hurt Bramble. The punches he hit Camacho and Bramble with at first were counterpunches. And the Camacho who was hit by Rosario and Hector at that time was never hit. The Chavez fight was impressive because of how Julio was able to demolish Rosario and not letting Rosario set, although Rosario was having weight problems at the time. The Rosario who fought Camacho and Bramble in 1986 would beat Buchanan.

Bramble quit against Rosario imo.It wasn't a true knockout.

because a fighter wins fights when he has all the advantages and his opponents fight his fight, that does not make him as great then if he had a guy moving on him and fighting the fight Duran does not like, and Duran found a way to win. Stopping Leonard and Benitez would have proved a lot. I think it is odd how he does not have wins over Benitez or Hearns or Hagler. When things were not going his way Duran lost, and the comment by Duran later was that he was out of shape or lost to much weight. Just Excuses. If you look at Pacman now, he has proven more than Duran ever did just on his wins.
Pacman still has to beat Mayweather to prove the guys he fought in his last 5 fights were not washed up or overrated a little, but he is on the right track.

Yeah he quit but he knew it was coming. He was hit clean and he had nothing to defend with. Had he gotten up Rosario would have put him down seconds later. That fight was a case where Bramble had a great chin up to a certain level. Rosario hit above the level Bramble could take, similar to the Hearns/Duran fight.

147 was a perfect weight for him

, sure. But when we're talking the very best of him we're talking about the man at 135, earlier in his 20's, regardless of the Leonard performance. That said, i see your point in picking Arguello to do it. Arguello is lighter naturally but he's more than proven at 135 so he fits the bill for contention. I don't see it personally. Duran is better all round in my opinion. His work in the pocket would offset Arguello's powerpunching style in my opinion, shoulder-rolling etc etc. Arguello is very accurate, especially when initiating exchanges, but how much leverage could he get when attempting to initiate exchanges over the long haul? Against someone of Duran's skillset, you have to envisage Arguello's timing would be taking a knock, and his defense would be under heavy pressure. I just don't see it for him myself.

Like i said in that thread, if i'm putting someone forth it's Ike Williams. Dejesus doesn;t fight like Williams per se, but he got that win over Duran by using accurate hooks etc after making small pockets of punching room so he could counter with them. Williams is great at getting off rapid fire combos without much room presented for him to operate in.

See MAG, i just want you to know that when you come at me like this, with thought behind a post, i'll happily debate with you. It's just when you come with the approach you have done most of the time that it makes me be dismissive man.

I see what you are saying, but I have given arguments on here and to be honest Duran is seen as such a great fighter that no one really wants to hear it, and I understand. By the way the Arguello/Duran fight is one of those fights which should have happened. I would probably pick Duran to win by late knockout, and that would have been his signature fight at lightweight. But he never fought it. Duran was always a division up and their timing never matched up. Too bad. Duran/Pryor is another fight. I would pick Pryor over Duran at 140, and I think in that fight Pryor becomes the boxer surprisingly and uses his speed. He would have to. You cannot fight with Roberto. He usually came out ahead.

Duran was knocked down by Dejesus and he still won. So that kills off the thing about him not overcoming adversity. Pacquiao is a great fighter. It's all subjective and Devil's advocate though, as you could just say that Duran has a win that is in contention for being the best in history, Pacquiao has nothing near that level of win. And no, as i said before, the method of victory isn't a major factor. It is when discussing head to head ability, but not when discussing greatness. Like i said already, see Tommy Loughran.

I've discussed the Pryor one a few times before as well. I think Pryor would have to box, i don;t think he'd swarm on Duran with any success. Pryor could box, it's something i always point out. But his style is not to box for a full fight, he never did that in reality so it wouldn't happen in here. He boxed in spurts mainly to catch a breather before going back to his natural style. It's like me saying Duran would box on the back foot against Ike Williams because Duran did that early in his career in one of his fights. You and i both know Duran is not going to do that, and we both know Pryor isn;t going to do thst either.

I understand you're pissed off because you think there's a bias towards Duran, but i'm not biased so we can just leave that out on this one.

PS, Duran when at distance was one of the most lethal at closing distance, by virtue of an accurate right hand upstairs followed by lefts and rights from mlutiple angles. I don;t see someone of Pryor's outboxing ability using speed to avoid that. It would be a fight, clearly

How much faster do you think Pryor would be looking at the Duran that beat SRL, and how much better an outfighter do you think Pryor is vs Duran?

I'm not sure we need to compare Buchanan to Chavez. Chavez seemed to be a monster at 135 in his limited appearances, but I think a tough, mover like Buchanan would give him a very difficult fight. I'd favor Chavez.
Are we comparing Duran to Chavez now? Did Chavez KO any great fighters? He stopped a lot of very good to good fighters............I'm not sure the Rosario of '86 slipped substantially to '87. I'd chalk it up to Chavez's greatness on that night and brutal body punches.

I would fear for Arguello's life if he were thrown in to take on any decent version of Duran at 135.

Poor styles matchup for the Nicaraguan I agree.

WOEFUL styles matchup. Alexis liked to start slowly (and his extreme power almost always had opponents letting him do this) and slowly dissect his foes weaknesses and eventually overwhelm him. Duran would pressure him out of his comfort zone from the first minute and has virtually no structural weaknesses at 135. Instead of Alexis controlling the tempo and flow of the fight it would be Duran. Duran would pound the **** out of his ribs. As a matter of fact i believe Duran might be the hardest 135'er in history for Alexis to beat.

Back to the topic. Rosario has a punchers chance vs virtually any 135 but Buchanan is hard as nails and should outbox him.
