I'm sorry but Fitz would be no match for the speedy Jones and Bob is way too slow to get in a lucky punch. The best of our moderns is far better than the best of the old timers

    Apology accepted.

Could be. Jones was a much bigger man thanks to modern training methods. Although there's the open question of what rules you're using.

It's a bit hard to tell how fast Bob is on the film we have, since it wasn't running at normal speed.

That said, you may be right about the difference in quality between the old and modern, but the question is then: where do you draw the dividing line? It keeps shifting forward over time. 20 years ago, forumites here didn't class Louis as a fossil. Now many do.

Going by the very small amount of Fitzsimmon footage I would say Jones by UD12

I’d give Fitz a puncher’s chance but would favor Jones

Honestly, y'all are underestimating Fitz. Yeah, most of us remember Fitz as just an all time great puncher, which is true, but he is much more than that. He knew how to cut opponents off with his footwork to set up punches. Roy Jones is also superb in maneurving around opponents but a sophisticated pressure fighter may cause Jones trouble and expose that chin. Tbh, in my personal opinion, I would take Fitz to win a mid round like TKO6-8, with Jones winning some rounds with his speed but will eventually walked down.

Why do you make the thread if you say in OP that there is no debate?

This is also a meeting engagement between two guys in essentially different sports, who've never seen anyone who fights like the other before. In that kind of situation, the faster puncher guy willing to push the issue will probably win. Neither guy was hyper aggressive, exactly, but Jones came from a more active era. Tempted to go with him.

Jones plays it safe and cool and gets a decision. But!!
Fitz is deadly so Jones can't be silly.

To be honest, it's pointless if you don't give both of them time and material to work with. They fougth at completely different rules and they never faced anyone close to each other throughout their primes.

In 1990s rules, Roy would probably outbox Fitz. In 1890s rules, Fitz would likely stop Roy sooner or later.

Maybe so, but Bob could be Roy’s Kryptonite. :) Y’All must’ve forgot that Corbett was the gay nineties version of Jones and looked what happened to Mr Fancy Pants (or “thong” in this case).

Little known fact. Jones’ had a glass stomach also, so even though losing for the greater part, one good shot in the slats will do it for the Blacksmith who then shouts “No more excuses Roy!!

Why not, Fitz ko 14 Jones. After Jones wins most of the first 7 or so rounds, than Fitz takes over in the later rounds and lands his fame body shot.
