Ruddock or Wilder?

If you're banking on Ruddock getting up from a bomb thrown by Wilder, you probably shouldn't be picking him.

 

He actually showed in the Smith fight that he could get up from a big KD and come back to win.

How many fights Wilder win coming off the canvas? I have zero belief in Wilder handling Ruddock's left hook.

 

Because Wilder gets taken out by left hyrbid hooks, right?

 

Bonecrusher dropped him. Wilder would leave him sleeping.

I think Wilder’s speed — that right hand was a dart — is the difference here. Razor presses things, which means Wilder is going to be firing sniper bullets to keep him off. One finds its mark and it’s over, KO 2.

Neither Tyson nor Lewis --- two of the biggest punchers in boxing history -- KO'd Ruddock with one punch. Lewis took him out with a wicked combo after flooring him twice before.

But the bum beater Wilder is gonna yield better results than Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis, huh?

Wilder fan girls live in an alternate reality.

You guys do understand that Wilder would be a fringe level guy in the Tyson, Holy, Bowe, Lewis era, right? He wouldn't sniff a belt in that era just like Ruddock never did.

In 1989 and at 36 years of age, James “ Bonecrusher “ smith was called upon with only a few weeks notice to face a rising contender named Donovan “ razor “ Ruddock. Bone had been out of the ring for a year and hadn’t recorded a win since 1986. He was at a then career high weight to that point. In the second round he nailed ruddock with a shot that sent him flying to the canvas. Razor got up staggered and composed himself but was clearly hurt. By about the fifth round a very tired and deconditioned Smith faded and was eventually knocked out.

Largely based on the above, I think a prime and well trained Wilder would have finished what Smith couldn’t. Ruddock was susceptible to big right hands and in this case he’d be subjected to one of the most lethal ones in boxing.

Good way of phrasing it… “lock horns” both had the boxing IQ of an Ox lol.

 

This is the sort of matchup Wilder should be in. What a wild affair it would be. Both have claims, I'm destitute of having great confidence either way. Maybe a trilogy would see them sharing wins. Ruddock might be too aggressive for Wilder too.

 

Pretty comparable heavyweights.
