Do what you want, but don't go straight in with heavy ankle weights, use light ones and build up the weight and even then you have to be vigilant with them if you feel any pain stop because it is VERY easy to damage your ankle and knee using ankle weights so if you do go ahead and use them becareful

It would obviously required most physical output, ie increased ehart rate and more usage of leg muscles. Whether it is at all relevant and beneficial to boxing is another matter, I dont think it is myself.

What exactly would the benefits be? When you run, particularly at higher intensities you are already putting massive amounts of stress on your legs. Ankle weights, what are a couple of kilos gonna make a difference? All it's gonna do is mess with your running mechanics and train you to move slower. Just as ****ing stupid as people you see walking or jogging with weights in their hands. It's not only pointless but most likely detrimental.

Its not good. It has the potential to mess something up (running mechanics, knees, ankles etc) and the only thing it'll really help is your psoas major which is 99% of the time strong enough. It will add to energy expenditure at lower intensities but it will slow you down at higher intensities and actually make it impossible to run as fast thus making your "higher intensities" lower ones by not allowing you to run as fast. Long story short its stupid.

will cause bad shin splints, would be too much pounding on the concrete.
would cause some sort of damage if you used them over a long distance

ankle weights are good for agility drills, short and sharp stuff

I agree with what everyone else has said, increases the chances of injury due to increased stress, better to just do sprints or hill training.

What I don't get is how in the army they run long distances with ridiculous weights with big heavy boots with no cushioning and not get more injuries.

If you want to volunteer to test it go ahead... but please let us know in a few months time how your knees and ankles are doing. Curious minds want to know!

    Biomechanicaly not a good idea

  15. Actually yesterday I went for run in my brand new work boots (impulsive thing). Have to say I enjoyed it, it was a tough slog but not something you'd want to do all the time.

I imagine same goes with this because it was demanding on the lower parts of your body.
