I rarely call anybody out on this but he's the epitome of a boxrec warrior. He either is unaware of the existence of no-decsion fights, in which case he is ignorant and not worth listening to, or he is aware and is maliciously ignoring them to prove some moronic point and is not worth listening too.

Ridiculous and uneducated account of Langford and a complete lack of understanding of the era. Terrible journalism to say the least.

Records are useful in assessing a fighter but basic win /loss scores need to take into account what stage of their careers fighters were in . For example , Langford probably carried quite a few white guys it being good business to do so, possibly Smith ,Ketchel ,and Flynn may be among that number..The author of this piece seems bent on making bare statistics fit into an oversimplified agenda.
Its akin to sayin Ken Norton beat Muhammad Ali ,one of, if not the greatest heavyweight champion, therefore he must be up there with him. A deliberate misrepresentation of events imo,and should be treated acordingly.

As mentioned boxrec is an excellent tool. But it gives only numbers. These numbers need to be interpreted and placed in context.

This is particularly important in Langford's era, where even in boxrec (understandably) there are lots of missing 'numbers'.

The truly pathetic thing about Boxrec warriors, is that they are not even particularly good at using Boxrec!

No serious researcher would asses a fighter based on their Boxrec profile, but it does at least allow you to work out variables like a fighters age when a fight took place, time between fights, and whether fights were at local or national level.

These guys never pick up on any of that!
