Hello folks, have posted this question before but no-one ever replied to it last time - but I'll keep asking the question in the hope of getting an answer because this has been bugging me for a few years:

This is a bit obscure but there is a Kevin Costner film which at the start has a clip of Sam Langford fighting an outdoor match (and I don't think it was the Flynn match) - I know the film was set in about the 20's I think but can anyone name the film as I would be interested to check th footage again (there all sorts of news clips of the era - including some of babe ruth) Kevin Costner give a voice over and says something like "in boxing Sam Langford was the best fighter in the world"

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE (ANYONE) CLEAR THIS UP FOR ME :thumbsup

The Untouchables? Probably not, but it's the only Costner film I can think of that would be set around that time.

Same here, I'll wikipedia Costner :good

or 'Field of Dreams', which is obviously baseball orientated, but is more modern if I remember correctly :good

Could be 'Bull Durham' or 'American Flyers' which seems sports related :good

If you track it down please let me know, especially if it has other footage of Langford that we might not be aware of.

Has to be the Flynn fight as it is the only footage that exists with Sam fighting outdoors ..

Agree with grant, had to be the Fireman Jim Flynn bout in 1908...Probably only film of Langford that still exits,...

Did "Wyatt Earp" ever show anything from the '20s?

Hello everyone, its one of those funny things - I know the only 2 films as far as I knew too - were the the Lang and Flynn bouts - but from memory (in my minds eye) the bit of footage on that film didn't resemble either of those bits of footage?? Have probably got it wrong but I'm certain the camera shot looked to be from a more raised position and much clearer and I'm sure I remember the other guy in the ring being a vaguely similar sized black guy?? I can't exactly go to the video store and ask to rent all the Kevin Costner movies they have - else they might think I'm a bit odd - was just hoping someone might have an old tape of the right movie lying around somewhere - I personally think it might be either the Bull Durham one or the Wyatt Earp film but I just don't know?? Bugger!! Everyone keep doing what you can to track this one down.

    cheers
