Sanchez-Camacho

    I've been watching quite a few Hector Camacho fights. He was a fast and flashy little guy. He stopped Bazooka Limon August 1983, which was a year after Salvador Sanchez stopped Azumah Nelson in July 1982 and then died Aug 1982

    So, had Sanchez not died and we had a Sanchez-Camacho fight at 130 lbs in 1983, who would have won?

    This fight would've been all wrong for Sanchez. He was at his best against sluggers. He was a counter-puncher with a great jaw, which has always been the bane to a great slugger (Quarry-Lyle, Quarry-Foster, Nova-Baer I & II, Starling-Honeyghan, etc.). Against boxers Sanchez was placed in the awkward position of having to force the fight where he sometimes squeaked by (Ford, Castillo, Cowdell). Against Camacho at jr. light, which was probably Camacho at his speedy best, I see Camacho taking a comfortable 15 round decision with neither fighter ever in distress. Those two had two of the best jaws ever. Can't say I'd be happy about this one as I never liked Camacho, but can't deny him in this one.

    Yeah, Camacho takes this fight by UD in 15.Bernard Taylor had a small window and chance of beating Salvador also, but he never developed.

    Funny thing, I was thinking of this match up a few days ago...I think it would be a bit closer than the above two posters...because Chava was very technical, and had a very quick, short right hand...Sanchez was very smart, and demonstrated he would take what was given in a fight...Not that Hector presents that much to an opponent, he is very skilled, with great footwork, and ATG speed. But I believe Sanchez is good enough to time Camacho...and I also think Sanchez would go to the body better than any of Camacho's opponents in his early days.

    But with all that said...I would pick Camacho by UD. Very difficult to deal with...

    I'd say Sanchez by very close decision. He'd use a body attack early then come on late. The fight would probably only be 12 rounds though because of the WBC rule. I'm assuming this would be for the WBC title as that's the one Camacho won and the Mexican based WBC would give Sanchez a shot on demand. I'd favor Sanchez even more if it was 15 rounds.
