Schmelling Louis I

    After watching this fight again I realized Max didn't get enough credit for this performance. Starting in the 2nd round he started landing blistering straight rights that Louis never had an answer to. He completely outboxed and dropped him , and wobbled Joe throughout the fight and when he was tagged he covered up well and defended himself with calm skill. It was a thorough beating. I've seen a few of Max's fights but he never looked this good again, he left a young dangerous Joe Louis on his face in the 12the round

    Max was brilliant. He was also a old fighter up against a prime Joe Louis. (31 to 22)

    I think this fight was bigger than Tyson/Douglas, or Johnson/Jeffries for historical discussions.

    It was a meticulous picking apart of a murderous puncher.
    You can tell by Schmelings reflexes and awareness that he was taking no chances.
    Everything had to be right, and precise. Hard to replicate a performance like that.
