He didn't have the taste for the bevvy? Was he a weight bully?..I remember watching him fighting the pocket rocket Wayne McCullough and the size difference was unbelievable...felt sorry for Wayne tbh..if Scott had for instance Ricky burns attitude and dedication to the game how would his career have panned out?..
To answer your question he would have went down in most top 5 British fighters of all time imo. As I have mentioned on various threads he had a huge weight advantage over other featherweight but latterly it was less of an advantage as it left him weight drained. Before he was as big at the weight he just used different skills and worked off his world class jab. Early in his career he was a supreme boxer then later on was toe to toe. How many British boxers have been great at doing both ? Even later on people never appreciated how good his footwork was could cut of a ring better than any other British fighter of his generation, used to be able to move opponents from centre ring to the ropes effortless.
Haha I knew moogy boy would be on this with tbh quite ridiculous views...top 5 British fighters of all time?..Ken Buchanan maybe at a push could be considered..I just watched Harrison v Brodie there 1st time I'd seen it good fight!..I think burns would have beat any version of Scott at super feather.
Harrison did have Burns like attitude and dedication ffs. It was only his latter days that were a waste.
Scott was s good fighter. Beat Brodie, looked good against Chacon from what I remember, beat Wayne M but looked at least a weight division bigger. But needed a rematch to beat Medina. To me he was never going to compete with the very best 126/130 fighters back then, by compete I mean beat. He was never IMO going to go close to top 5 UK fighters ever. He was limited at highest level, he could cut the ring off as Moog said and could work at good work rate but he wasn’t an elite fighter, not even close. So no way would he ever have made it as top 5 all time U.K. fighters. I’d need to watch his fights again to be fair but although I was a fan, I thought Harrison had limitations at the top end of world level.
Very sad end to his career -- if he had remained on track he was on the cusp of big fights with Barrera + Morales etc. Could have left a very good legacy. Much better fighter than Burns IMO
Very especially when you look era he was in, his division when he was in it was strongest of any division in last 25 years. Plenty of people who couldn't win world titles who would win them now, people who were 10-15 in world back then during their prime years who went on to be World Champions years later when past there best as competition become weaker.
He was a decent world champion but very limited and would never of beat the best in his division which to be fair had an abundance of top talent at that time.Burns at his best would of outboxed him easily imo.
Moon your talking complete shite, Burns done it at three weights, your only saying what you’ve been told I know exactly what went wrong Scott was a fantastic fighter who unfortunately had to leave a bit of the fight in the gym due to making the weight, Scott should have moved up after Wayne fight imo
Burns was feed puddings to beat, especially the guy at light welterweight, guy isnt as good as the British Champion, in fact Ricky would not have won a British Title at light Welter. Agree Scott should have moved up after McCullough, but less of your cheek Billy your like a wee wain throwing his toys out the pram
I like you Moog. And as a Scot I've followed all our fighters, Harrison included but who did Scott beat at their peak ? Burns beat Roman Martinez to win his Title. I agree Di Rocco was poor, but even P Moses who Burns schooled was still fighting for a World Title against Beltran. Harrison's resume is solid but unspectacular. Drew with Victor Polo who got beat wide by Marquez next, rematch needed for Medina, & McCullough was way smaller & past his prime. Brodie was a good scrap but again, past his best & only fought twice more. Hardly elite names. Not saying Burns reume blows Harrison's away but even with losses to Omar Fig in the States & fighting Bud Crawford, Burns got the chance to prove himself in that company. Good fighter, good champ, may have done more but never an elite fighter.
