He was impressive toe-to-toe. Looked like Roy Jones. He was young. Maybe the explanation is because his competition sucked? Philip Holiday, Shotgun Gomez, Wilfredo Ruiz, Golden Johnson, etc. He didn't fight Cesar Bazan, Stevie Johnston, etc.
Instead he chose to go up 2 weight divisions and fight one of the best p4p if no THE best p4p at that time and won. He did look fantastic though, super quick with extremely heavy hands. Id pick a lightweight mosley over a likeweight mayweather anyday.
As a Lightweight, Mosley was still in a development stage. While he looked like a player, he did not appear at the time to be the guy who wound up going back and forth between several of the top world P4P. He really hit the scene when DLH picked him for target practice , but Shane fooled everybody with the upset win.
Mosley at lightweight was something else. Mosley at LW beats Castillo, Corrales, and Mayweather. I wouldn't go as far as saying he beats Duran though .
He was no different at all at LW than he was at WW, other than the fact that he was facing far inferior competition. He was stronger at WW as well.

Number 1 he looked nothing like RJJ.He was an aggresive box puncher.RJJ was not he was a slick speer counter puncher who relied on reflex`s.Mosley offense wsa his defensive which truthly although grade A wasnt A star like Jones or PBF`s.He was willing to give one to take one. Mosley made 8 defences of the IBF.All by way of Knock out.He was beating guys like Ceballos, John Brown, Molina, Leija, and Eduardo Morales long before they became gatekeepers. His also ranked by the ring as one of the greatest lightweights of all time.
Mosley was an animal.I dont know how he made 135 but he did.He used to come in as high as 159 for fights at 35 on fight night.He had an over 90% KO rate at 35.He hit to hard and was simply too fast.His speed like Floyds at the lower weights was insane.Duran would have had his hands full thats real.It would have been a great great war.
His speed was flashy arm punches. He was able to knock out those lower level lighter weight guys with good counter arm punches. But he was never good enough to beat Floyd at Lightweight.
Larry Merchant was real high on him early, but he looked overrated IMO. Proved the doubters wrong with the first de la Hoya fight, but then people went too over the top with him, and it all ended in tears in the Forrest fight. But to his credit Mosley rebounded big time from that, to prove Merchant right in the end.
