I See Jacks Greater Boxing Skill Winning By Dec. But If The Was In Toms Era It Would Be Better Chance For Tom .if Jack Got Stupid And Tried To Brawl Inside He Could Get Dropped Like He Did Against One Of The Best Infighters Of Alltime-dempsey

Jack Sharkey was much more skilled than Tom Sharkey. Jack Sharkey beat the **** out of a pressure swarming fighter like dempsey, I think Jack handles tom.

I Just Have To Add It Was A Past Prime Dempsey Who Stil Found A Way To Win,but I Agree Jacks Reach And Better Skill Would Get Him The Win Unless He Started Brawling

I think the statement "beating the **** out of Dempsey" is a bit exxagarated. What was your score up to that point?

pretty one sided for sharkey, dempsey probably have won one or two at most of the first 6 rounds. he had dempsey badly hurt in the 1st. He was on his way to a unanimous decision win.

In his auto biography dempsey said he thought Sharkey was going to knock him out,at one point Sharkey unleashed a combo staggering Demsey ,leaned over the ropes and shouted to the crowd "there's your cheese champion",Sharkey was very confidemt going in to this fight,Dempseys corner told him to "keep boring in ,keep going for the body",would Dempsey have won without the low blow? Probably not,and then there would have been no long count fight . Sharkey would have fought Tunney instead.

I think Dempsey would have won anyway. Sharkey seemed to be slowing down and becoming discouraged by Dempsey's relentless body attack and determination.

Which is kind of surprising, considering Sharkey was not a puncher at all. But as i've said on Tunney's comments in the other thread, i think Dempsey over-dramatised a bit here, although he was stunned.

Sharkey-Tunney would probably have been a dull affair, a rather easy win for Tunney on points. Dempsey-Tunney II was a pretty good scrap even if somewhat one-sided, although that doesn't justify the low blow obviously.

Sharkey had what 15 kos but does he look like he is patty caking Dempsey? he looks to me like he is hitting him hard. There again you think Tunney didnt hit Dempsey with many hard punches ,Tunney had 50 stoppages in 68 of his decision fights ,perhaps the referee was throwing a few?

Tunney hit Dempsey plenty, though most of them were arm punches. But some of them were good, crisp shots with his weight behind it. He was excellent at backing up and throwing shots, which is why Ali held him in such high regard despite him being white.

Jack Sharkey could punch a bit. He did not score many KO, but part of that was due to problems with his hands. The Boston Gob was one of those off and on Jersey Joe Walcott like fighters who could look great in one fight and mediocre in the next. Like Walcott, Jack Sharkey had a suspect chin, which is why Tom Sharkey would likely get to him and score a TKO. On film, I also feel big hitters intimidated Jack Sharkey a tad. See the Carnera or Louis fight.
