    Big surprise!

You're always only one punch from disaster.

But not many foresaw this one.

    Referee heard Les' ankle snap:

    IBF #3 Sherrington upset

by Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing - 23rd May 2011

IBF #3 super middleweight Les Sherrington (27-5, 17 KOs) suffered a upset stoppage loss to Kashif Mumtaz (7-24-1, 5 KOs) in round one at the Gold Coast hotel, Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia on Saturday.

Mumtaz dropped Sherrington with a solid right hand to the head and referee Alan Moore crowned Mumtaz at 1:20 when Sherrington couldn’t continue due to a fractured ankle.

Sherrington holds wins over former world rated Rubin Williams, Shannan Taylor and Nader Hamdan. Mumtaz lost to former WBA middleweight champion Masilino Masoe in 2011.

In other action Melbourne based light welterweight Mathew Lytwynenko (3-0) outcored Australian based Filipino Allan Jay Tuniacao (2-3-6) over four rounds by scores 39-37, 39-37 and 39-39.
