I guess they have realized the original showtime super six tournament was great in theory, but there were too many trappings and reasons why it would fail. A novel idea to put 6 of the best in a group stage and knock out tournament, but the way it's unfolding now I do not see another of its kind being attempted.

However showtime have come up with a 2 round knockout tournament involving bantamweights, Yonnhy Perez, Joseph Agbeko, Abner Mares and Vic Darchinyan. Since there is only one elimination round and then a final, I think this format could workout in other weight classes. What other 4 man tournaments can you see happening, or should happen? I suppose a light welter quartet involving Khan, Bradley, Alexander, Kotelnik?

The 140 one, take out Kotelnik and put in Ortiz.

    JuanMa/Gamboa/John/Caballero.

I'm looking forward to this. Mares made me a believer against Perez, so I'm backing him to come out on top. There's nothing not to like about this tournament - 4 of the top guys in maybe the deepest division in boxing, taking on two very hard fights in succession in order to prove themselves. Love it.

If they're going to stick with a knockout format, I think in some of the deeper divisions, you could easily have an 8-man tournament. If all the prospects at 160 want to take the big step up, you could easily put 8 guys in there.

This is the way all tournaments should be.There will so much less hassles with 4 than a "Stupid 6".It will also be over in two broadcasts with 2 quality fights per show.Well done!:good

Tournaments like this are great and are nothing new. What was novel about the S6 was the fact before single-elimination began the fighters would first have to duke it out to see who gets to be involved. It gave us the opportunity to have re-matches and for the tournament to create its own back-story. Oh well.

I like the match-ups for the Bantamweight tournament.. 4 great fighters, great match-ups. Even an Agbeko-Darchinyan sounds enticing.

Darchiniyan has no chance in this deal. And also, without Montiel and Donaire, this doesn't decide a whole lot. But they are good fights.
