Tyson Fury: ''But then again it wouldn’t have mattered because I wasn’t putting any power in the shots after about three or four rounds. They were only tap punches. There was no power in them. They were non-damaging blows so it wouldn’t have mattered'' Is he talking **** because he has no power ? I asked a pro in my gym a couple of months back, if he sits down on all his punches, and he says he does. There must be the intention to sit down on all your punches, but obviously not every single punch. Is Tyson talking **** ? Or ? Any pro's in tonight ?
I'm not sure what Tyson is talking about but you do sometimes not fully sit with your punches, normally happens if your off balance. You wouldn't do it on purpose tho.
That's what i was thinking, led me to believe he was talking nonsense because he didn't have the necessary power to hurt Del Boy..
Fury has good power, but that's it, it did seem like he wasn't putting all his power behind every shot, when he had Chisora in the corner a lot of those shots were probing for gaps, something Fury does a lot more now than he did when he first started. maybe he could be bullshitting a little though, why would you suddenly stop throwing power shots after the THIRD round?
sitting on your punches just means having your feet under you, knees bent and twisting everything into you punches. its not something guys do all the times, especially movers. alot of times when a fighter has his opponents on the ropes hell sit down on his punches to get full power behind it, or if trading in the center of the ring. movers dont sit down on their punches as much, becuase as stated by someone else, theyre not in the right position to do so, its only when they stick do they sit down on them. its always good to mix it up though. let the opponent think you dont hit as hard so that they get comfortable with you and then BOOM! you start sitting down on your punches and breaking bones
You cannot sit on ALL your punch when you throw in combinations. Some punches are set to bring the gard down/feint, while the money is in the next punch.
Good conversation going and I just wanted to add that a lot of times you sacrifice some power for speed, to get your punches going faster and to put them in combinations you may only put half the power into it as you would when your "sitting down on them", which was described properly earlier by slicknick.
