skill bouts

    whats the opinion on these.i think they are a good idea to introduce a young fighter (10-15 years old) to boxing.
    they only box 3 1 minute rounds and no decision is given.we have a kid at our boxing club who spars well sometimes when we take him to another gym and other times not, so a skills bout will will show him and his coaches if he's ready

    I think skills bouts are a great idea.

    Many coaches think otherwise i.e. they say if a fighter is not ready he should not be in the ring, but I disagree. It's a great way to introduce the young un's to boxing.

    They are a great idea for kids about to compete. Much better indication of how ready they are and how they will deal with pressure than sparring.

    i agree with you both.it gets the kids ready for boxing in front of a crowd for one thing.
