Watching the Heaney v Pauls fight afterwards Pauls who is now 31 said on the small hall circuit he has sometimes had to pay to box on ticket deals, made £40 one show broke even another, and even Heaney who is one of the biggest ticket sellers I've seen said he sold 60 for his debut which likely saw him make in the region of £500 if that. I'm interested how many of us attend small hall shows, and if solely to support a particular boxer say a friend/brother/school mate etc. It must be an incredibly hard route to stick at making that kind of money whilst putting it all on the line
Been to alot of bcb boxing promotions in dudley walsall and wolvo. Mainly to support my cusion but also his gym mates. Selling tickets was a nightmare especially if our kid was on the same card as a couple of his mates. He mainly sold to close friends and family. The best I sold for him was a 150 on my own. Night he fought josh warrington.
Yeah that's another issue, if on same card as gym mate or someone same town etc. It's no wonder so few make it from the small hall through to the big cards, huge ask keep churning out that number of tickets. I've seen a few of the bcb ones being plugged on facebook, I almost feel with ticket deals promoters by and large at that level under promote and leave it to the fighters.
That's how it works nowadays. You buy your record and try work/ fight your way into a TV fight and hopefully a deal. Doesn't always work out for the fighters, especially if they get beat on the small halls. Females have it even harder tbf. Most of there opponents are foreigners and they're paying anywhere from £2200 to £3500 for 4&6 rounders.
The more savvy females nowadays flash a bit round social media, get themselves on only fannies, have 3-6 fights then get a World Title Fight. Makes a mockery of pro boxing.
I like the small hall for learning the trade outside of the limelight, once on tv the public demand blood which is why a lot pushed far to early. However to be a full time pro and box small hall a huge sacrifice financial
Used to go to a few small hall shows in Sheffield. There's plenty at Magna in Rotherham too. Always interesting to go back to small hall events on BoxRec and see who was on cards from X amount of years ago.
If you are in the blue corner, small hall shows you generally have to cover the opponents purse via ticket sales. Say 2 to 300 a round for the opponent , the maths not hard to do, do know guys that almost fought for free sadly. Even the basic 4 round fights 8 to 1200 quid, then if you can sell more, great you get paid. Some guys good fighters go the journeyman route. Cant sell tickets and hard to get fights.
