With his style, he better should be a puncher for his own good. He is not that tall, he is fat, and hasnt exactly the best workrate. Beeing a puncher could save the day for him.

    agreed.

It was a good fight. Solis had some problems with Burnett's lenght, but his skills, quickness, defense and HW power were there. IMO his fat body is keeping him away from his best. Once he drops 20lbs we should the fighter everybody is waiting for.

There are some things to like about Solis. He has good fundamentals, quick hands, solid counter-puncer, and seems to have some ring smarts. Its just his conditioning seems awful, no need to come in 25+ pounds overweight all the time. If he got his weight under control he could be a good heavyweight but I really don't think he'll discipline himself enough to do so. I think as soon as he faces a tough challenge who can get him late into a fight he'll be in trouble. Last nights fight wasn't too bad either, I wanted to see him face Beck like originally planned but Burnett made for a decent fight.

He's definately got skills but as everybody says, he's too heavy. There's no spring in his step, it's as if h's in a metal ring with magnets on his boots. Minus 25-30 lbs and he could be very good indeed.

...the fact that the original opponent got injured did not make Solis fat.

Where are all the people repping this guy who like to bag on Peter and Toney for their weight.

They at least became accomplished pros before getting fat. Solis is in poor condition as a prospect...:-(

he's naturally a very small hw or a pretty big cruiser because of his frame. his lack of power and apparent work ethic will severely limit him at hw. he'd have a very tough time making curiser but would probably do better there but with lesser paydays. you need to be exceptional to be that small at hw (ala mike tyson, frazier) and he ain't

he is no threat for the hw division at the moment - maybe in two or three years, he is not ready yet. look at povetkin, who turned pro at the same time, he is already getting in line for a title shot and has faced much better competition. i wonder what happens when solis loses his first bout - will he lose weight and show more work ethic or will he eat himself up to 300 lbs?

It sucks because he looked really ****ing good in his bout against Haye in the Olympics.

**** man, with the headguard on, he looks like a completely different fighter in that he's not a fatass.

I've seen a couple of Solis fights & this is my opinion:

    The Good
    Excellent handspeed
    Good combinations
    Reasonable power
Good head movement especially evident early

    The Bad
Doesn't ever appear to be in fighting shape
    Stamina isn't great (see above)
Chin is a question mark due to level of competition
Prone to plodding around looking for one big shot

That's my honest opinion without bias. He has been matched pretty good so far, such as them picking a big guy with no power & a wimpy jab in his last fight. That guy almost didn't beat the count in his previous fight when he was caught at the end.

I still wouldn't call him "****" though...................all the negatives I've listed are correctable, but you have to question his dedication to the sport.

Reminds me a bit of Kirk Johnson. Anyone agree?

His opponents previous opponent wasn't anybody special & he flattened him with a single punch, something that Solis couldn't do to him.
