Southpaw Boxer-Puncher

I'm looking to study a southpaw boxer-puncher and I thought given the wealth of knowledge it would be best to post here rather than in the Trainnig forum.

What I'm really looking for is a southpaw version of Yuri Arbachakov if possible, or as close to that as possible. A text-book fighter behind a tight, high-guard, behind solid fundamentals and a patient approach to picking punches, with good footwork.

I can't really think of anybody and unless my mind has gone completely blank and there's an obvious fighter I'm missing, I'm looking for suggestions as to the closest possible resemblence to a southpaw Arbachakov.

I don't know about the puncher bit but he certainly hit with authority and was a good finisher. Of course i'm talking about the man.......Yoko Gushiken.

I didn't think of him because of his slickness on the approach. Nice.

 

If I would nit pick I would say Gushiken was a puncher IMO. Although he has a completly odd style the way he comes in with laser guided shots then is back out before his opponent can comprehend that he just got Gushiken'd

 

Not on the level of Gushiken to watch but would Antonio Tarver count as a boxer puncher?

It pisses me off when I watch Gerry. The guy was a genius, and yet I feel he underachieved.

 

Yeah it's good. He qualifies in the sense that he uses his full reach to back his man up constantly. That's his style. Wouldn't go all out on the calling him great but you sort of said that anyway.

 

I thought of Saldivar as soon as I saw this thread.

 

It's just pure quality and being comfortable in a ring when you watch him. Probably all the experience.

 

He'll probably be seen as more fighter than boxer but he had technique defo.

 

Yeh that is a good one, although I think of him as a pressure fighter foremost.
