I think there are limits,i dont see anyone ever running under 18 seconds for 200m.
Its funny with sprinting, you get powerhouses like ben johnson and butch reynolds, then whippets like calvin smith and wariner, completely different builds yet super fast guys all of them....

Look at Bolt! The dude is a streak of ****! He`s 6ft 5. Gay and Powell are pretty much the same. The days when sherman tank John Regis was running are long gone.

If theres a record it will be broken, humans evolve I have no doubt well some some sort of 7 foot freak (not that hight helps you with speed) in 2100 who will run 100 meters under 9 secs.

Running the second 100metres faster than the 100m world record time isn't what is sick though, several sprinters have done that simply because you eliminate the need for an acceleration phase since you are already at top speed when you come out of the turn. What is sick is that it was run at 9.16 seconds, his ability to maintain top speed was just phenomenal.

Thats my point. I used to run track when i was in junior school to senior school. I ran the 100m and 4x1. I was always the starter because i was explosive off the mark. But after the first 60 or so metres id simply fade. How someone can maintain that kind of speed is beyond me.. Im just a mere mortal after all..:|

Do burpees or fast hops from crouching position. You cant become a sprinter by jogging slowly or pushing huge weights. Train fast = fast. Train slow = slow. The logic is quite simple.

If you want to increase your sprint or running speed, then its a mechanical thing which involves your entire body. If your arms are strong it helps you to run faster. This is about counter inertia and helps when you throw an arm back as the leg comes forward. There is no sprinter with a weak upperbody as you can easily observe in olympic sprinters.

Try sprinting with a 1lb or even 0.5 lb weight and you'll feel the difference.

    Tut tut tut tut...

Fast Twitch Fibres are recruited under high intensity's, fast twitch fibres are the strongest fibres in your body. The reason why Sprinters lift heavyweights is because, it recruits fast twitch fibres.

When you have a heavyweight, and you are doing the squat for example. To move that weight up, your body is forced to recruiting "Fast Twitch fibres"..

    Why

Because Fast twitch fibres work at high intensity's, and they are stronger than slow twitch fibres. Your logic is wrong, why the **** can Ben Johnson at 175 pound bodyweight Squat 660pounds for reps, why didn't Ben Johnson use light weights and fast reps.

"Because it is not a efficient way to recruit and train fast twitch fibres"

I bet sprinting recruits fast twitch muscle fiber as well, in all the right places.

Of course it does, but another reason why sprinters lift heavy weights. Is to train the body, to creating more Force. To lift a heavy weight you need to generate great amounts of force.

Power = Force generated in the shortest amount of time = making speed.

So if i could squat 600lb, i have great power potential. If could applies that force in short amounts of time, i.e sprinting...

The force that sprinters build in the gym, they then train the body at appling it with speed.

    "Through plyometrics..sprinting etc"

I am not posting in this topic no more...

    Like i have just said...
