I was just watching the Arguello/Pryor first fight. It struck me how good of a commentator Leonard was. Even when another announcer tells Leonard that Pryor had said that Leonard stole his showboating move of hand in the air Leonard keeps his cool and says laughingly, "I stole what?" But it would be cool if Leonard had a permanant ringside seat. I rather hear his opinions on what is happening than blowhard Emmanuel Steward's.

i never thought he was that good... out of the guys that have been in that spot (trainer/fighter) i'd rate them as follows:

    gil clancy
    roy jones
    manny steward
    george foreman
    ray leonard
    lennox lewis

but theres a huge gulf between leonard and lewis, lewis is by far the worst

Have you seen Ali do commentating for Foreman's Five Fight Exhibition Match. Definately the worst if not funniest commentator in history.

I'd definately put Leonard above Foreman. Foreman always chooses the puncher and no matter what happens Foreman is jumping all over the puncher's balls. Remember all those Hoya fights, "Oooh, look at him go. Look at his broad shoulders. There's the bounce. You see that bounce you better back away cuz Oscar's gonna do something dangerous."

lol Yeah he does that all the time. Oscars bounce is the most dangerous offensive maneuver in boxing. His special move from fight night

I thought SRL did a good job with HBO. He is very articulate and not bias. I remember one of he other commentators asking him who would win a fight between Camacho and Meldrick. He knew the answer, but declined and just gave the old "it would be a great match-up" line. RJJ was pretty good also. Anything is better than Max.

I liked both RJJ and SRL, both are very smart when it comes to technical aspects of fight, and it was allways interesting to hear what they have say.
Tho steward is lame of late, but you can sense hes not too quick to jump and cheer one particular fighter, I hate when Merchant picks on him for just speaking his mind and then it turns out Steward was right.

I wouldnt mind to see/hear Mayweather there too ( if he could keep his ego in check).
