Roy Jones IMO would beat Ray Robinson, Ray was too small for a PRIME Roy Jones Jr he is the most gifted boxer i have ever seen in my life....he DOMINATED everyone until he was 35 years old and came down from HW. If Roy never moved up to heavyweight he would be undefeated and he woulda smashed Tarver and Johnson with no problem. He had every tool that you want in a fighter, speed, footwork, defense, ring IQ, accuracy, patience, right hand, left hook, power in both hands, etc etc. And you cant forget to mention that he "NEVER" got hit. He made champions look like chumps and he beat them easily. People like to discredit Roy's resume by saying he fought noone, but you cant be fighter of the 90's, an ATG, a Hall of Famer, and Pound for Pound fighter by fighting "nobodies":deal
i dunno, ray was never KO in about 150 fights-he was only stopped once against a LH and due to the heat...also we don't even have footage of the best RR only a guy almost as old as the RJJ you say had faded so much at 35. Also back then they fought all the time for $$$ reasons, if RR had long times off in his prime he might have been even more explosive for similar reasons that you say RJJ was drained from dropping weight-overuse/drainage/etc. I'm going to say SRR by KO at 160 or a bit heavier maybe and RJJ at any weight above 170-like when RR challenged for the LH title.
Jones on points. That doesn't make Jones a greater fighter though, I can't see Jones' body holding up to the years of wars Robbinson's did. He could never match his record. Stylewise it just favours Jones, he was too quick. Nonetheless, Robinson is considered the best of all time with good reason. He had no flaws at all and there isn't a single other boxer I can think of to say that about: Great chin, great speed, great stamina, great power, great punch technique, great heart, great footwork, great car, great moustache, great hair, bad singing voice though.
purists will say robinson but it really don't know. jones really was awesome but they are different eras.... i'm fence sitting.
Head-to-head RJJ could be beaten by a skilled boxer with speed close to his own and a powerful punch, all of which discribe SRR. At 160lbs, I'll go with Robinson by late KO in a 15 round fight, but probably RJJ by decision above 160lbs. The weakness of RJJ's chin is often exagerated, but I don't believe his chin could hold up to a perfect punch from Robinson. He got hit in every fight that lasted at least 2 rounds, maybe not often and maybe not with full force, but he got hit in every fight. SRR was faster than anybody RJJ has fought, a more skilled offensive fighter than anybody he ever fought, and had the power to KO Roy. But the advantages in size would present a lot of problems for SRR when the bigger man is as talented as RJJ. No one has done it yet, but comparing RJJ's status as an ATG to SRR's is bull****. The man was without a doubt great, but far from the level of Robinson.
