Does anyone know when the standing eight count was brought into boxing? When it was taken out?

I don't know when it was brought in or brought out, but I do know it is still actively used in amateur fights.

I don't really agree standing 8 counts, they are so hard to call and sometimes fighters are purposely letting the other guy unload at him and are waiting for them to tire or stop so they can throw their own shots. Some refs would view that as the fighter being hurt and give a standing 8 count even though it was not needed at all.

With only knockdowns, for the most part, it's pretty cut and dry. A fighter either got hit and went down or they didn't. With standing 8 counts there are so many different factors to take into account and imo professional boxing is better off without them.
