Whenever I stay relaxed it seems like I last much longer in the ring stamina wise and that my speed in my hands and reactions is much faster. Has anyone else found this? Now that I stay relaxed it feels like I can just tag people w/ my jab all day and they have trouble slipping it. I went to another gym the other day to spar and everyone kept saying how fast I was...

So is staying relaxed always beneficial?

It is almost always good to be realaxed and not tense up during boxing.

But you have to make sure that you don't become so relaxed that you become complacent.

I dont now its kind of a style thing too i think though..

Its easier to stay relaxed if your a fighting like Sweet Pea than it is if your fighting like Mike Tyson.

It's funny. I get told to relax sometimes. The thing is, I usually feel relaxed. Obviously, I must not look relaxed. But I think to myself, without going limp and collapsing to the floor, I dont know how I could relax more...

that u need to stay calm. when u rn't calm, ur body can hypervenilate, meaning breathing fast n all that which will definitely take u outta ur game plan and tire u out faster. when u r calm, ur thinking better, relfexes can even be better, everything will be better. don't get TOO relaxed where u dont' care if u take a punch here and there lol but u know what i mean, right?? hope i could help

This is the first thing your trainer should have taught you. It's the most important thing in boxing.
Your always supposed to be calm and collected while fighting. Boxing is a 95% mental sport, why do you think they call it "The Sweet Science"?
    It's like a chess game.
And if you don't know what I'm talking about (this goes for everyone) then you shouldn't be in a boxing ring or gym.
    So yes, keep it up.

I think that's even more reason to be in a boxing gym. No one starts out skilled.

Ask any professional, then come back to me. They will say the same or something very similar.
And wat I was saying might have been a little harsh, but I wasn't saying that towards newer people, that's something they have to learn on there own and through good trainers. I was talking about people who say they are skilled and have been boxing awhile.

unlike you most people dont start off champs.

shane mosley thinks floyd runs, does this mean he isn't a true fan of boxing?

Skills are what allows you to relax in the ring. A coach can tell you to be relaxed all he wants, but if you don't trust yourself enough it will not work.

Best post so far. It's having confidence in your own abilities which will allow you to relax, whatever sport you participate in.

That's why I said it's something you have to learn on your own and through good trainers.

I seriously am begining to think you know nothing about what your talking about.
I never said this is something that is unitainible unless you where born with it. I said that through hard training and good trainers it some something that ALL boxers should eventually attain and have, you won't get to that next level unless you attain it.
