I know your Lindsay's mate and all, but let the lad enjoy his victory! From his interview after the fight, it looks like he wants the Lindsay fight. And I bet Warren wouldnt have chose to put him in with Burns, but it shows what a bit of pressure from the fighter can do. I'm sure he can fight his own battles, so I'm not gonna do it for him. But how about just congratulating the lad rather than getting a dig in on behalf of your mate, just because they may end up in a scrap? I like Lindsay and went to see his fight in Leigh last time out. I was well impressed. Him v Swifty would be a great fight. But lets wait until it's announced before throwing in the verbals!
Gotta say in this day and age its a rare luxury to see a relative kid in the pro ranks take on such a tough fight as early as Steve did on Saturday. However you scored the fight respect should be paid for being willing to take the risk and the guy can now now reap some cool rewards

Not for the first time, Simpson felt robbed by the judges in a championship fight, storming from the ring after losing a split decision. The Scotsman thought that he had done enough in front of his own fans at Kelvin Hall. But Smith was handed the fight 116-112 and 114-112, with Simpson getting a 114-112 decision. Whatever Simpson's complaints - and he could easily have been given the nod - it would be hard to begrudge Smith the win in just his 11th professional fight. The young scouser, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist in 2006, came of age in a contest that was intriguing, but failed to live up to its billing as an out and out classic. Instead both boxers clinched as they tested the others' strength on the inside, Smith's rythym seemingly upset after he was cut around the right eye in the third. That injury may keep the 24-year-old out of a British title fight with Martin Lindsay, which Saturday night's encounter was an eliminator for. After the fight, Smith revealed that he was keen to fight Lindsay, although he may need a defence or two of his Commonwealth belt before he is truly let off the leash. The forum is all about opinions so think i'll add mine also. For me personally i had John winning the fight 7-5 but some of the rounds where really really close and that's why it's been such a debate since the decision was called. For me i don't know how the 3rd judge got a 4 point swing in your favour, if it was 1 or 2 then fair enough but definitely not 4 but that's just my opinion. At the end of the day you got the call mate and congrats on taking the title.
Like I said, I have only watched the fight once since...I will watch it again now but in my opinion I definitely won 7 rounds. The hand injury did effect me greatly as I wanted to box but didnt feel I could without the jab...it was mainly with the jab I was receiving the pain, not so much the hook for some reason. I tended to lead with the right more so from then on, falling in and becoming very scrappy. The cut didnt bother me in the slightest so will never be used in any way as any kind of excuse. It was an accidental clash of heads that caused it and it didnt have any effect on the fight to me. I am back with the specialist tomorrow so will know weather the hand needs operating on from then, will keep all posted.

I felt that John won the fight by a round but I understand a lot of the rounds were very close and I was really impressed by your performance considering the quality of opponent and the fact you'd never went beyond 8 rounds before. I'm still a bit pissed off at Ian Lewis' 116-112 score however, as in my eyes there is no way either you or John won 8 of the 12 rounds. Hopefully a rematch can settle things and as much as I'm a fan of John, I can see you winning it with the experience you gained from the fight on Saturday.
