Hisar Mawan vs. Valen Rawung Pantaow, 6 rounds @ light flyweight

 

25 year old prospect Hisar "Pacman" Mawan trains at the Daud Yordan gym, but guess which boxer the southpaw - whose trunks have the Pinoy flag on them - idolizes?

 

"Villy" Rawung is getting knocked across the ring by heavy left crosses on the body, slung in behind a quick high dash-in right jab from "Pacman".

Mawan occasionally switches it up and sends the left sailing up at the head - either grazing, or badly shaking Rawung up and forcing him to retreat even more hurriedly.

 

10-9 Mawan, very dominant - although he isn't showing the relentlessness or speedy combination-smithing instincts of his namesake, a bit too content to land big in ones & twos.

 

Mawan putting together left hand leads crashing into Rawung's nose with right hooks cutting off his escape when he tries Fred-Flintstoneing clockwise.

Rawung mostly negative, using every inch of the ring and pawing out defensive right jabs, but still just taking a beating from his fellow southpaw at long range. Mawan jumping in with a right upper-hook feint and then skewering Rawung with a shallow underhanded right in the abdomen when Rawung lifts his guard while backpedaling as fast as he can.

Rawung has managed to survive until the halfway point, anyway..

Mawan caught with a few overhand lefts, and nods his respect with a grin.

 

10-9 Mawan, out-landing Rawung with some quick straight flurries (worthier of his namesake than his earlier offense) - really wasn't expecting this much two-way action in light of the pace and one-sided nature of the first three..

 

Both loading up and missing a fair amount up close in the fifth. Mawan finding a bit more sharpness.

50-45 Mawan

 

Mawan comes out hyper aggressive to answer the final round's bell. Quick right hooks and lefts up top. Rawung covers up and takes it, until exploding with a clubbing left that backs Mawan off.

This fight has improved tremendously from the first half to second.

 

Rawung since R4 seems hungry for his first professional win. Putting a lot into his big sweeping right hooks and forcing Mawan to jump outside and reset before launching his next flurry.

 

60-54 Mawan, but really had to work for it down the stretch - laying off the gas pedal just a bit more in the final three rounds could have meant settling for a draw here.
