At the risk of sounding like a total 'Zuffa Zombie' as some put it, isnt there an argument that the UFC's stronger roster means there's bound to be less mis matches and dramatic finishes like the recent Strikeforce card produce. Im not saying the the card was full of mis matches, but hopefully you see my point. And I dont think Maynard has been 'hype', surely Zuffa know the downfalls of having him as champ
Strikeforce's roster is not as deep as the UFC's. It doesn't make it any less entertaining to watch though.
With the willingness to cross promote and give us fights without shelling out 55 bucks SF is kicking much ass these days in my mind. UFC is a bit like Lady Gaga. Not saying
I thought this was excellent. It was great to see a premier MMA organisation pushing Boxing via Showtime. Thats how combat sports is supposed to be.
Watched it again. It was better than any UFC card I can remember. The fighters seemed so free to let it all hang out. Is it becaue some felt they are in last chance saloon? Is it because they are less worried about losing and therefore getting cut? whatever the reason, the UFC needs to up it's game and improve which can only be good for the sport and us the spectators. No more filler on the undercards maybe less shows but more stacked. On another note Daley's KO was sick. A 'check hook' that FMJ would have been proud of. He showed great maturity not rushing in when Scott was hurt earlier. Maybe that whole Kos thing has matured him as a person and a fighter.
SF showed MMA who should be proud of their stand up. Daleys counter hook and Lawlers up and over were awesome. To pull these moves off so early in a fight which is so dynamic is awesome.
they should bring in other guys from k1/muay thai to mma imo, just like overeem. that would be sweet...
Much better presentation than UFC's and has been for some time now.UFC is getting predictable and SF isn't.:good
The bigfoot silva fight was GREAT, but lets be honest here. In any given weight class strikeforce has about three or four good fighters. They can't just round robin them over and over, so they give them some mismatches that, by design, should end in knockouts. Linland has been done; D-O-N-E done forever and they put him in there with Lawler and he gets knocked cold. Anyone surprised? Scott Smith throws hard and it a tough guy but the next time he moves his head when he's fighting will be his first. They put him in there with maybe the hardest P4P punchers with great accuracy and timing and guess what, he gets knocked out. And Henderson was +260 in that fight, so that wasn't a shocker either. My point is, sure we got to see some great and brutal KOs in strikeforce, but they weren't really great fights (apart from Silva vs Kyle which was superb). Any organization could do that if they just took their few good fighters and put clowns in there with them. I'd like to see Strikeforce get more than just three or good guys at each weight. As long as they only have a few they can either match them against each other and run out of possibilities fast or give them cans and hope no one notices.
The sport doesn't rate on free to air tv, just like boxing and it not good for companies to advertise on and major global companies don't won't to be apart of combat sports.
